Do You Remember an Inn, Miranda?
As evry ful kno, George Orwell was in Girona when he wrote "Homage to Catatonia", his great work of literature celebrating the virtues of Cerys Matthews.
A flying start from Girona took us to Figueres for lunch outside the local (loco) art museum. We're not sure what time exactly as our watches had melted. However, we knew we had to press on to France so we didn't dali long.
We don't want to focus on the dumpy bits on our trip but a special mention has to go to La Jonquera just inside Spain - Trucking Hell! It's a town with more trucks than road to fit them on and more "sexy shops" than churches (which is a bad thing, Lesley). There really is nothing to recommend it - not even the road out. Admittedly, we were biased against that by the steep incline and the brutal headwind which literally (and laterally) blew us to a stop - R picked up a nice thigh bruise after being squeezed against the barrier by a sudden gust.
Despite the best efforts of the Spanish weather and geography, we made it across the border to France cheered on by a barmy old couple, miming pedal motions with their arms, bobbing up and down and telling us "faites courages!".
Vive la France!
Day 88.7km (Total 1212.7km)
