So lets update for Koh Chang (translated this means the island of dreams!), because we started there a week ago now so don't want to forget anything!
White sand beach was beautiful and i really did think i had arrived at the island of dreams, instantly i asked dave if we could live there (but he said no, so no panic anyone!). The sun was blazing, the sand white and the sea was so clear but blue and green in colour! The beach is lined with expensive hotels with private swimming pools but at the very end there were pretty beach huts which is where we stayed for 4.50 per night! The shower was cold and we shared our room with a few lizards but they didn't bother us. The weather on monday was cloudy so no beach for us. Instead we hired a motorbike and did a bit of exploring down the west coast of the island and down to lonely beach where we planned to stay for a couple of days after white sands. The roads were very windy and hilly (i'm talking like at least 45' hills!!) and for a lot of the time dave was screaming like a girl whilst i was laughing (a little nervously i admit!) at him. The helmets we were given was too small for daves head and too big for mine but at least they would have helped a little if we'd have fallen off (which we didn't). The thunderstorms continued in Koh Chang so the evening was spent in our bungalows bar watching the lightning over the sea.
On tuesday we still had the bike until lunch time because they hire them out for 24 hrs so we headed in the opposite direction, aiming to find a waterfall that had been recommended to us. We found it with not too much problem but as soon as we arrived it started to rain so we whimped out and went back to the beach. Once out of the mountainous area though the sun was still shining on the beach so the afternoon was spent sleeping on the beach. Extreme relaxation. Pizza for tea tonight, sometimes you just get sick of noodles!!!
Again on wednesday we hired a bike and discovered the east side of the island. Thé east is not as tourist orientated but still has a lot to offer. There are numerous waterfalls to see but quite expensive to get in so we skipped them and headed to the pretty little fishing villages in the south east and watched as they dry out hundreds of shrimp in the sun. We went for a beach side barbeque meal in the evening so we had a rack of ribs, jacket potato, garlic bread and some chicken and salad. Beaut! Just after we finished eating two young performers came out and displayed a fire show, twirling flames of paraffin around there bodies and up in the air so they could catch them. Scary but very impressive.
Thursday morning came and we were quite sad to leave pen's bungalows but we wanted to see what lonely beach was like! It's not as nice. we paid the same amount per night to stay in the magic garden bungalows which weren't on the beach, weren't as nice and the bathroom, although attached to bungalow was outside with only the shower sheltered by a few palm leaves (having to pee in the middle of the night when there's yet another storm happening was definately NOT FUN!!), but we coped no problem. Another issue was discovered when dave opened the tiny little cupboard we were meant to unpack into and there was an ants and thousands of ants!!! At first we did't know whether to leave but out came the 100% deet and that stopped them. Until we decided to scrape out the nest that is. Then thousands more came. More deet controlled the situation and we were able to rid of the problem in the waste paper bin. The day was spent not really doing much as it was cloudy again and then, later that night, when we had been out for a nice tea, we went back to our room to find we had no electricity so we had to move to the next bungalow. They say there's always a silver lining, this one was actually more secure and cleaner but we still couldn't help feeling a little bit annoyed that we had cleared the ants nest.
The next two days were also spent not really doing much other than having a little walk around the village and reading, the weather was miserable. We did make it to the beach one day but it was not as big, clean or nice as white sands but if the weather had been better it would have been just fine to chill out for a couple of days.
So that wraps up koh Chang really, will get the pictures on soon. xx
