Sorry it's been a while guys! So what have we missed.
We are currently on an island south east of Pattaya and Bangkok called Koh Chang but first i want to tell you about Pattaya!
After leaving bangkok we spent three nights in Pattaya where all the ladyboys, prostitutes and anyone else trying to make a bit of money from westerners generally hang out! After being dropped off near walking street, which is the main party street, we needed to find the hotel we had booked with hostel bookers! We didn't know at the time but this was going to cause a slight problem! The obvious thing to do first, find a map, which we did with no problem and easily found the street we needed to be on. So thinking it was all going to be a doddle we started walking. After about 40 minute walking we found Bua Khao Road which is what we were looking for, bonus! At this point we took a right turn, heading back in the general direction of walking street, knowing that the hotel was meant to be a few hundred metres from this point. Whenb we reached the end of the road having not seen our hotel, panic and annoyance set in (don't forget we are carrying our rucksacks still). We asked a few people and no-one seemed to know so we tried the internet cafe. Leaving with some directions we headed back the way we had just come. All we could find was a sign which looked similar to the one on hostelworld but the hotel was called Ciao Bella instead of Bacione bar we were looking for! On asking the owner we found that he was a new owner and had changed the name so our booking was useless but fortunately he had a room.
Having been to Pattaya in 2006 i wanted to show dave Walking Street and see if all my old favourites were still there. The best of the best being lucifers nightclub and bar was still there. We had our first, (expensive in comparison to others) drink in there then walked the length of the street. I don't think dave knew where to look half the time. Spotting ladyboy or actual woman was a good game. Then there was the go-go bars every 50 yards, with semi naked women (that looked like girls) trying to lure us in to their club. Surprisingly we resisted!
Soon after us leaving walking street the heavens opened and the immense thunder storm started. We started walking back to the hotel, you know the saying, it's only a bit of water, you won't shrink? I actually thought i was! We were drenched! The thunder and lightning was crazy, i actually haven't heard anything like it! We had the tv on full blast and still couldn't hear it!!
The next day (saturday) we took the advice of an english dude we had been talking to the night before and went to Jomtien beach which is to the east of Pattaya. It was meant to be better than Pattaya beach but we weren't all that impressed and it was stilll overcast so we decided to walk back! We got to the end of Jomtien beach thinking we just needed to turn the corner to meet the pier at the end of walking street but no! More walking for dave and rachael! We had to take a detour and head inland a little bit to aim to meet the coast again. Which we did, but it was only a little cove that got us nowhere! Dave suggested, if only he had his compass, he would be able to get us back. A familiar sight of a baht bus (a form of taxi in Pattaya that you can hop on and off for 10 baht, approx 25p, wherever you go) was a pleasant one, so we got on. The driver asked where we were going and then wanted to charge us 200baht, daylight robbery if you ask me! So, yep you guessed it, more walking! Taking the advice of another british guy we stopped and asked we took the short walk up the street and hopped on a baht bus at the top for just 10 baht.
This has been a long blog and i don't want to bore you too much so i'll leave you in suspense for the next couple of days update.
Ciao for now xx
