The bus from Hoi An only took four hours but the scenery on the way was lovely. We passed through a few villages and saw people wearing conical hats while they worked in the paddy fields it was really interesting to watch. After the bus ride through the countryside we arrived in Hue which was quite a large city, and with the amount of motor bikes reminded me of Ho Chi Minh.
Like most places in Asia it was cheaper to have our own room than to get a dorm and our hotel in Hue was one of the best places that we had stayed, it was only £3 a night and that included breakfast - bargain! We were starving as we hadn't ate much all day so rather than eat out, we found a big super market and I bought some bread and crisps to have crisp butty. No disrespect to Asian food as it is really nice, but the crisp butty was the nicest meal I had had in a while as rice can get a bit boring. Since being in Vietnam whenever we have had a tv we have watched a channel called Star World which shows Glee and American Idol so rather than go out and explore after quite a long day travelling we sat in and watched tv ready to explore the next day.
We had only planned to stay in Hue a few days so the next morning we got up and had breakfast and explored. We took a walk over the river and had a look around the market, then sat in a park by the river and these school girls asked if they could interview us for a school project. It was about saying thankyou, and what our opinion was on it, they even filmed themselves talking to us on an ipad. They were really nice though, they said they loved our accents and got a picture with us.
As Hue has a train line, we decided that rather than go through all the stress of getting another on another night bus to travel to Hanoi we decided that we would get an over night sleeper train. So we took a walk to the train station to book our tickets for the next day, it was nice knowing that we would be getting a train instead of a bus for once.
The next day we took a little boat ride down the river which dropped us off in the old part of Hue. The old town was quite interesting as their was a huge wall that surrounded it and there was a building that looked like a huge fort. After walking around for a while we made our way back across the bridge to our hotel. While walking across the bridge this slightly crazy old man decided to walk with us. He kept repeating himself and saying that he liked Obama, and he took a shine to Jane and even asked her around his house for tea it was hillerious!
After saying by to the old man and making getting our bags from the hotel we made our way to the train station and I was so excited to be getting on a train, the first one we have been in since we have been away. Our compartment on the train was so good, it had two sets of bunk beds, a table, sockets so we could use our laptops and our own window and no one else came in our room too which was good! Now I thought that most train tracks would be the same, so I expected the journey to be quite smooth like the trains at home - I couldn't have been more wrong. The train flew from side to side to the point where you would actually move up and down in your bed and I was worried it would go flying off the tracks, so as you would expect we didn't get much sleep!
