After a short flight we arrived in Phuket and got straight into a taxi to our hotel in Patong. When we arrived the hotel was on a busy street with lots of other guest houses, it was really nice and even had a small pool. Mark wasn't too fussed on it, but I think he had just been spoiled a little too much by the radisson. That night we had a walk down Bangla Road which is so full of people trying to get you into their restaurants and bars it's a little crazy. We had our first encounter with lady boys and couldn't believe how much they look like women, it was so strange! People just stand their staring at them and taking pictures while they dance, the lady boys didn't mind though they seemed to love the attention.
We organised a trip to Phi Phi for the next day, so we were picked up from our hotel early and were taken to the port. The speed boat took quite a while and the four of us didn't have the most comforatble spot on the boat. We were sat at the front so everytime the boat hit a big wave we felt like we were going to go flying off it, it was fun until I started feeling sick! I was so happy to get off the boat and arrive at Maya Bay. The beach is gorgeous and the water is perfectly clear, the only thing that spoilt it slightly was the amount of tourists on the beach but I suppose you would get that anywhere. We did some snorkelling then headed to monkey island. We had bought some bread to feed the monkeys, they were so cute but very cheeky as they would snatch the bread out of your hand if you didn't give it to them quick enough. The tour then took us to Phi Phi island were we had lunch and walked around the shops for a while, and then onto another little island were Mark and Dan did some more snorkelling while me and Jane sat on the beach. We all had such a good day out. That night me and Mark went to an Irish pub for tea and I had sausage and mash! It was lovely, and the fact that it was the first time I'd had it since being away which made it extra nice :)
The next day was cooking class day! We had a few hours in the morning to kill before the class started so me and Mark had a look around the shopping centre in Patong. One of the beauty salons in there had a really good offer on facials, so I wanted to get one and managed to persuade mark to get one too. (Although I thought it would take a lot more persuading than it actually did). I think he secretly really enjoyed it!
We met up with Jane and Dan a few hours later to go to the cooking school. We started by choosing the dishes each of us wanted to cook, then began tasting the different sauces and spices that go into Thai cooking. It was interesting to know the ingrediants of the food that we have been eating for the past few weeks. We all chose three different dishes, and if I do say so myself we were all master chefs! I can't wait to try some Thai cooking when I'm home. That night we played some bowling then went out down Bangla Road and had far too many buckets, god knows what is actually in the buckets but from what I can tell they are VERY strong! Me and Jane ended up in a night club while the boys went to see a ping pong show (think sticky vicky but a Thai version). Good night though, and even after eating all the food at the cooking class there was still room for a McDonald's on the way home.
Phuket was a lot of fun, but now for a few relaxing days and elephants in Ko Samui!
