After such a busy Christmas, we hadn't even had a chance to see the Harbour and the Opera house, so we decided to have a sight seeing day.
We had a walk through the Botanical Gardens then made our way to the Opera House. The area around the Opera house was so busy with tourists, but it was easy to see why people come here as it really is a gorgeous building! The Harbour bridge was just at the side of it and seeing it made me really excited for New Years eve.
After taking lots of pictures, we had a walk to Darling Harbour and had a look around Paddy's market. It was nice to see that you can actually get a few bargains in the market, as everything in Sydney is just so expensive! We bought some strawberry's, and had a sit down in the sun by the harbour. We had been walking all day and were both really tired, so when we got back to Helen's we decided should all have a girly night and so we watched Sex and the City the movie.
We had heard so much about the Blue Mountains so me and Jane booked a day trip to go and see them. When we arrived we had a look at the mountains on the observation deck and then made our way down a walking trail that took us down to the Katoomba Scenice Railway. The railway takes you back up to the top of the mountain and is apparantly the steepest railway in the world, and it was actually quite scary! We really enjoyed the tour, we visited a few more places alogn the way then made our way back to the city.
The week between xmas and new year went so quickly, I couldn't believe it was new years eve already! We planned to watch the fire works in the Botanical gardens which is on the side of the harbour, but to get a good space we had to make our way there really early. We queued for around five hours, but finally made our way into the gardens about 3pm where we met up with everyone from xmas day. Even though we had such a long time to wait for the fire works to start, the day went so quickly as the atmosphere was so exciting! There must have been about 20,000 people in the gardens so it felt like we were at a festival.
Just before twelve we moved further towards the harbour so we could get a better view. The countdown on the bridge started and as soon as it hit one there where huge fireworks from the bridge. The fire works where coming from about five different places around the harbour so you felt like you where surrounded by them. They were on for about thirty minutes, and after they were finished everyone began to cheer and clap, but it was a bit sad that it was all over. I can't begin to describe how amazing it was to spend New Years Eve at the harbour bridge, it's something that I will remember forever! But it's a shame to think that no other New Years Eve will ever top this one :)
Soon after the fire works ended we made our way back to Helen's so we could have an early night as we had the Field Day festival the next day.
We had the most brilliant time in Sydney including Christmas, New Year and everything inbetween. It's a lovely city with so much to do in it , it is definitely somewhere I hope to visit again. But now onto our next stop Thailand :)
