Good morning everybody and welcome to Bangkok. Remind me next time I want to go away that 20 hours is more than anyone really needs to spend travelling anywhere! Just kidding... (I think)
Hopefully my Mum and Dad will have spread the word that I made it safely by now so this won't come as a surprise to many of you, but for those of you who didn't know, I made it safely!
The journey was not so great from the start. We were over half an hour late taking off from Heathrow. Gulf Air, by the way, is fantastic and I would recommend it to any of you. Ate lots of food, watched "How to lose friends and alienate people", slept badly, and then found out that, actually, we weren't going to be landing at Bahrain because there was a ridiculous amount of fog and the airport was closed. So we were grounded at Dammam in Saudi Arabia for almost three hours. The good news about this is that I slept and managed to overcome the time difference that way. The bad news is that we didn't get to Bahrain until nearly two hours after my connecting flight should have departed. Fortunately (or should that be unfortunately), there were so many delays that my flight didn't take off until 4 hours after it should have done.
The flight to Bangkok wasn't too bad, despite my exhaustion. Got to watch "High School Musical 3" for the fifth time, which would have been better if the screen wasn't so tiny and the colours weren't so off. Slept some more and then finally finally landed in Bangkok at 22:45 local time. Breezed through immigration and customs, collected my bag and made it to my transfer. For those of you who haven't been, Bangkok airport puts Heathrow to shame!
Anyways, by the time I made it to my hotel it was gone midnight, and I literally had just enough energy to call home and check in and then I collapsed in bed.
Woke up at 6:35 this morning and feeling pretty good so far. The weather is hot hot hot (yes mum, I am wearing suncream) and it's humid, but otherwise nice. The streets are absolutely bustling. Not that I've ventured that far from my hotel yet, for fear of getting lost, but there's just this incredible atmosphere here. Gemma you would love it!
I'm going to go now because I have other things to update and check and I don't want to bore you with my adventure before it's really started. I should be on here again tomorrow as this place is just round the corner from my hotel, so until then, bye!
ETA: forgot to mention... I haven't been able to connect to a network here so it looks like I'll be needing a new sim card. Please don't call/text me unless I tell you otherwise as I won't be able to get it!
