Today was my last day at Prey Chrouk School as I will be volunteering at an orphanage from Monday for four days. Spent the day doing some teaching and finishing off painting the classroom. We also had lunch at the Prey Chrouk Pagoda with Vanak and the nuns, who all look as though they are 100 with no teeth! They were great fun and we shared our food with them . . . including Laura's Mars Bar which they found very confusing!
I was sad to leave the children at Prey Chrouk, but am happy that I have been able to be with them for 3 weeks and it's an experience I will never forget. Moving to the orphanage will be a completely new experience which I am very much looking forward to (they have even less than those at Prey Chrouk).
Had an sms from my friend, Sak, this afternoon inviting me to a Khmer Wedding this weekend. It's his niece's wedding and is taking place 10km from Sisophon, in a place called Banteay Meanchey. Have bought a bus ticket ($5) to Sisophon (which is located in the north of the country, heading towards Poipet and the Thai border). The journey should take about 4 hours, even though it's only 105km! The road is awful (I already know this because Prey Chrouk is on the same road). Apparently Bangkok Airways have had a contract with the Cambodian Government for the last 5 years and so the road has not been repaired, prompting people to fly to Bangkok instead of travelling by road. However the contract comes to an end in the next few months and so the road is now a building site.
Spent this evening at The Villa's BBQ with Laura but heading for an early night as the bus leaves at 7am.
Sok-sa-bai!
PS. The above photo shows some of the secondary school children saying 'goodbye'!
