Almost caught up on our adventures! Yesterday, Sunday, we went to Plitvice Lakes, a national park in Croatia. It was a huge park composed of interconnecting lakes with waterfalls throughout. It was breathtaking. There was a labyrinth of walkways and stairs throughout the lakes making for great sightseeing. At some points the water was coming up onto the stairs and you really felt like you were in the falls!
The lakes were about 2.5 hours away by bus so we were able to do it all in one day and packed quite a lot into this first week here in Croatia. As it is early in the season we were expecting it pretty empty and were suprised at the number of tourists actually visiting the park yesterday and cannot even imagine what it must be like in high season in the summer. Luckily we walk pretty fast and would get away from the crowd after a painful 15 minutes of slow walking behind said other tourists. The biggest surprise was the lack of wildlife as we didnt really see any--only fish in the clear blue/green water.
The picture on this page is of the three of us standing in front of "the big waterfall" and it was HUGE! 250m in height. As it took FOREVER to upload my zagreb pics to this site I will likely upload the rest of mine through facebook and post the link in a blog entry on here so you can view.
It really was beautiful and while we took a ton of pictures I dont think it does the beauty justice but its a start!
