Litchfiled National Park is home to a number of beautiful waterfalls. It is not far from Darwin and most of the good stuff can be accessed by a sealed raod, which we have found is rare in most national parks. We visited four waterfalls; the Wangi falls were large and there was a lot of water because there has been plenty of rain recently. In the dry season swimming is permitted in the pool below the fall but in the wet there is likely to be salties. Tolmer falls was Sion's favourite and the caves below are home to a number of rare bat species. Buley rock holes was a fast flowing cascade with a few pools where people were swimming. Florence falls was Rachel's favourite because it had twin waterfalls and a tree in the middle. Our last stop in Litchfield NP was the magnetic termite mounds. Termites build there mounds on a north-south axis so that it acts a temperature control and keeps them at around 30 degrees C. Unlike other termites they live above ground level because the areas they build their mounds on regularly flood.
