Rachel's Travels...
Moved to my new hostel Monday morning, and then went to catch the ferry to Half Moon Bay to meet Peter and Pam Creamer who I think is my third cousin (he was gran's cousin). The crossing took about half an hour, but it was so rough as the weather was crap - cold, grey and raining. I was sat inside and the spray was constantly hitting the windows. Peter met me from the ferry and took me back to his house in Howick where I met Pam. She cooked a roast lamb dinner (yeah!) and then she took me on a tour of Howick - we saw her church, the local beaches and the new town which has just been built. They live in a very nice area of the suburbs. She made me an egg and cheese salad (because I hadn't told her I didn't like salad) and I managed to eat half of it which I thought was good. As the weather was so bad they drove me back to my hostel which was really nice of them. We went the scenic route and passed Kelly Tarlton's Antartic Encounter and Underwater World. Emmy knows all about this place because its an aquarium and they breed penguins here and its also all underground (I haven't been in yet).
On the Tuesday I met up with Audrey (all three of them are well into their 70's). I met her at a massive shopping centre called St Luke's which is near to where she lives in Mount Albert. We had lunch, which I didn't like - I ordered a corned beef sandwhich but it certainly wasn't corned beef.
Then we went for a drive around the local area. Yet again the weather was crap - very windy and quite cold, but it wasn't raining thankfully. First we went to Point Chevalier beach, which was nice and had a view of the Harbour Bridge (which I jumped off!). Then we went to this massive park called Western Springs. There is a lake in the middle and we saw little tiny ducklings that were very cute and fluffy and also loads of black swans with loads of cygnets which were also very cute.
Audrey cooked me tea at her house (I like getting food cooked for me!) and then gave me money to get a taxi back to the hostel. She was also very nice, but I think slightly mad - she kept telling me about her two toyboys who she didn't want to marry or live with - she just wanted them for one thing!
