Rachel's Travels...
Arrived in Auckland Monday 27th September around 11.30am. It took about an hour to clear customs and then I had to declare my walking boots and snacks!. Instead of going directly to the Hostel we stopped at Mount Eden; an extinct volcano in the middle of Auckland (Auckland is apparently built on about 50 odd of them). It provided great views of Auckland which is a massive city. Got a bit homesick when the plaque there showed that the furthest place was London (over 18000 km).
I'm staying at the Auckland Central Backpackers on Queen Street in the centre of Auckland. The room I'm in sleeps four, but I know them all so thats ok. But the room is so basic - 2 sets of bunk beds, a fridge, a bin and only one chair. Looking forward to getting a flat so I can unpack.
Didn't really do much Monday except get some food, explore a bit down Queen Street and have a drink in the Globe bar, which is next to the hostel.
Tuesday was orientation at IEP (the Bunac equivalent here). We learnt a bit about New Zealand and set up bank accounts and tax numbers - exciting stuff!
