Today we headed off relatively early to get to Hout Bay where we went to the bird and monkey sanctuary. It was strange that all of the birds were just flying over your head and there wasnt any fencing to keep them in. I personally think that some of them were scary... like the turkeys which followed you in a 'gobble gobble' fashion and the vultures... but no-one else seemed to share my view on that. When we got to the parrots we had a conversation with one who said 'hello', then laughed at us followed by telling us to 'go away'. Charming. There were also quite a few meerkats which I loved... and yes the main reason is because of Timone in the Lion King.
After we'd eaten we headed for Drakenstein Lion Sanctuary. Once we'd arrived there (thanks to my amazing map-reading skills) we were told about the sanctuary; that the lions were lions that they'd saved from captivity and that they would stay in their open sanctuary for the rest of their lives. We looked around the park and then waited until 4 o clock when we saw them being fed; the feeding involved one of the workers throwing whole chickens into the enclosures. I got some amazing photos here and was surprised at how close we could get to the lions... much closer than you would be able to in zoos at home.
A lot of today I was in a state of nervousness as my a level exam results come out tomorrow. So you'll all be updated tomorrow morning on what the outcome of that is.
