Hello,
Yet again the photo is upside down!
Not sure why. I am having trouble publishing my blogs after years of it being straight forward.
My war tour has finished, with more days of seeing more impressive cemeteries-as in the numbers of dead in them. One German cemetery has 44,000 in it!
The losses were horrendous.
Yesterday we went to the fairly new memorial of Notre Dame de Lorette which is just for that area of the Somme. It has 579,000 names on it of missing men.
We also saw the museum at Peronne, Pozieres battle site and Compiagne where the armistice was finally signed.
By then I was probably over WW1 and the sad futility of it all.
We then hit Paris with our hotel close to the Eiffel Tower. It was the first time I have been driven in Paris, usually I am walking or on the metro.
I walked agin to the tower, and to the first Statue of Liberty which is above the tunnel where Lady Di had her accident.
Our guide was an ex-Grenidier Guard, and had contact with Lady Di, and said she was nice.
He said her guards were called Di's guys, now they are called Camillas gorillas!
We finished the tour with a dinner cruise on the river which was lovely, nice food and a great view of some of the sites lit up especially the tower.
It was a very late night, but fun.
There was a mini 'award' ceremony for the stand out characters.
Today I got the Eurostar train to London. Took 2.20 hrs.
It's still cold here and had been raining.
I love London and am happy to see it again.
I was able to check into my hotel, and then took off to look for a replacement bag ( this one ripped on the first day away ). Bit expensive so am uuming and aarghing.
I then went and bought a pair of jeans as my travel pants aren't warm enough.
The queue for the change room at the shop was worse than Target/ Myer on Boxing Day! Got some finally.
I also bought a ticket for tomorrow night to Les Miserables at the theatre.
I saw 2 shows last time I was here.
Then I walked back, was tired by then.
Tomorrow I am going to Hampton Court Palace.
So all is going well so far.
It's busy here as always, but the traffic seems more civilised and slower than Paris.
I hope everyone is well.

debz It would have been so nice to be staying so close to the Eiffel Tower, could you see it from your hotel? I did love it there too. UK, hmm I always think it is more expensive there. Yes I get the wait for the changing rooms...I didn't like shopping in such crowds. Hampton Court Gardens are wonderful. I hope you had nice weather. I get the traffic thing. I not long ago talked Mum and her bloke out of driving in Europe, they are too old for it. They will drive around Ireland however. Mum leaves for Europe in 12 days. She hasn't been since the 80's so will be surprised how many tourist are there now. enjoy the warmer weather. Be save Debz xx
