I posted a blog 3 days ago. This is the start of the next one. It's really a diary for me!! Otherwise I'll remember nothing !
Hello.
I had 2 lovely days off staying with Adrian's relatives at Crackington Haven which is a nothing place along the coast, tiny beach with a shed being craned in for the lifesavers for the summer. They had a lovely cottage for the week and we got out and about to see the sights , in particular a lovely village Bocastle, which was wiped out in a flood in 2004 and also Tintagel which had an overpriced ruined castle/ fort that reputedly is connected with King Arthur of the Round Table. Probably isn't tho.
Day 10. 2/6/15 Bude to Crackington Haven -16 Kms ,5 hrs, was a nightmare walk in driving rain early on and gale force winds which luckily were blowing on shore so until a spur at the end I wasn't going to be blown off the cliffs.
It was very scary but no choice but to continue on. I had brand new boots too which are doing ok, but so are NOT waterproof as the shop promised.
I was so glad to finish that day!
Day 11 walking-today after 2 days off.
I took a ride to Tintagel so missed 19 Kms!
5/6/15
Tintagel to Port Isaac( Doc Martin village) 15 Kms. 4 hrs.
I stayed in my first youth hostel last night. It was nice except I couldn't check in until 5 pm so lay in the grass for hours reading my walk guide book.
Today's walk was great, no sore back. Sore shoulders but you can walk with sore shoulders whereas you can't with a sore back!!
It sort of rained, didn't put coat or pants on. My gaiters, boots and socks were drenched which was annoying when I had to wait another 3 hrs to check into the hotel.
I could see a group ahead of me and caught them right at the end. They had a dog who must have covered x5 what we did.
It was interesting today passing old slate mines and seeing the 'off cuts' and the fences made of slate.
As usual there were some horrendous descents to creeks and then ascents that exhaust you.
It certainly slows your hourly mileage ability.
I could see the destination the whole way again today which can be discouraging as it takes so long to get nearer as you find headland after valley along the way.
It's lovely and sunny now I've checked in!!
There may be live singing tonight at the harbour seeing its Friday and the high season! We'll see.
There was a group singing sea shanty type music. Good stuff.
Longer day tomorrow with a later start as brekkie is 8.30. Non negotiable.
I've had lots of beer and chips tonight- again !!!
I've cancelled 3 nights that had unrealistic mileages , and booked elsewhere , so more rest days now. Also found days where I can get the bus if need be so don't feel as terrified now !!!!
