Hello everyone,
I just lost my one hour creation when tried to post it. Not happy.
So this is the abridged version (phew you go, I know!)
After leaving London I went to Warwick to see a friend, spent the PM with her.
As always it was cold and wet.
I walked to Royal Leamington Spa the next AM for a quick look then got the train to Worcester past where we used to visit Adrian's relatives 40 years ago. I didn't recognise a thing.
Worcester is a really nice city with a lovely Cathedral, nice buildings, and nice river with a swan invasion.
I then went to Lincoln which is even nicer, another greater Cathedral, and a castle, both on a hill overlooking the city. I went to Evensong at both cathedrals, 1st with a young boys' choir and the 2nd with girls.
Then across country to just under the Scottish border to Berwick. More rain and it were COLD. I went by bus to Lindisfarne, an island with tidal access where there had been a priory, and there's a renovated castle. There are only 2 buses a week so I was very lucky I was there on the right day. I had intended to see 2 local castles, but had no way of getting there, so walked everywhere in Berwick (pronounced Bearik) to see the freezing ocean and beaches ( lovely holiday park there with great mobile homes) city walls and fortifications going back 100's yrs.
Then off to Glasgow where I met a lady I walked with 4 years ago.
We had ale or two, a look around the city; saw an historic cemetery, with a statue of John Knox who founded the Presbyterian Church during the reformation by brutal means.
Also saw yet another fabulous cathedral.
Then off to start a 95 mile walk to Fort William. It's been cold and wet and horrible walking much of the time. The poor hotels have drying rooms for the wet boots, coats, gaiters, rain pants, packs etc. Thank goodness there is hot water for showering, and great hot dinners.
My back has been aching from the pack so I turfed a lot of warm clothes (a no- no with my bushwalking club) and today froze when I had to stand in the rain and wait for the group.
As always there are slower walkers so I am ahead then have to wait. It would be so much easier to walk with the group but it's so hard to walk slowly.
One lady who turns out to live 500m from where I lived, fell the first half hour and hurt her ankle and hasn't been able to walk since. Another lady is getting the bus after 10 kms tomorrow as it's a 30 km day. It's supposed to be fine from now on. We'll see!
Ok group, no BFF, but nice enough.
The scenery isn't as interesting as I'd hoped; we've walked along the side of Loch Lomond, with many streams coming in, and then at the top of it have been near the main road north and railway.
There are some small hills, with lots of sheep. They are lambing, so lots of 'baaing' from lambs.
We stayed at the most haunted hotel in Scotland last night, and then it's the oldest tomorrow night.
Tomorrow we are walking on an old Roman Rd which is usually straight, over hills, dales, streams etc., and no bends. It made for faster walking when they were on the go,
Ok, that's it for now, from cold wet Scotland.
Hope everyone is well and warm.
Carol

debz Well we are a hell of a lot warmer and dryer then you. I still don't get why you do this, you never seem to have good weather or anyone like minded, so sad. I think it is time for you to have normal holiday LOL....whats normal I wonder. Well somewhere warm for a start. Somewhere with good food and a nice room. I saw the photo one one of your hotel breakfasts, I have never had a breakfast like that so you sure must be on a tight budget. Maybe that why you can afford these big trips and I can't :) Well I hope walking in england will be more pleasant...roll on england and warmer weather for you. It's going into winter here, but it is still rather warm for this time of year, I wore just a tee shirt and track pants to the beach to walk the dogs yesterday, however it is raining today but it's warm. Bloody crazy weather now days. I hope you are doing well as far as your knees are concerned and touch wood NO Falls YAH! Keep safe Love Debz
