Wednesday - Fine
We woke up this morning and found that the skies were clear. We were keen to get going on our cruise after seeing the weather.
We walked down the street and boarded the boat. It looked like lots of people had the same idea as us today, because although the boat was of decent size the boat was full and Kim and I weren't lucky enough to score a seat for the trip.
Never mind the idea of today wasn't about sitting down. It was about swimming, and It wasn't too long before we were taking a dip.
We were heading to the island of Comino, and there we had two swimming spots. One stop was in the Blue Lagoon, the other was in crystal lagoon.
The coast line from Mellieha bay round to the Blue Lagoon was very nice. Very rugged cliffs with a few caves that the captain placed the bow of the ship into for us to get a look inside.
We arrived at the Blue Lagoon, and the name fits. The water was very blue, a light blue and very clear. We could see right down to the white sand bed.
The boat had snorkels to rent, so we grabbed a couple and we were told that we had a little over two hours of swimming time. We made our way off the boat and into the lovely warm water.
It was a very nice swim, we had a good snorkel around the lagoon, we saw plenty of fish. We got out of the water once and headed back to the boat only to check to see how much time we had left. However to our shock the two hours had passed, and not long after we hopped aboard, the boat pulled anchor and we left. Amazing! Time flies!
We didn't go far, we went over to Gozo harbor for a peek. Then made our way to the west side of Comino, and dropped anchor in crystal bay for another swim, and to explore some caves.
The water here was much deeper, but still very blue, it was a rich dark blue and the bottom was still visible. We took the snorkels out again and swam over into what is called Popeye's cave. It is a beautiful round cave that had a hole in the ceiling. If was amazing looking up through the hole at the blue sky above. We filled in the rest of our time snorkeling around the rocks and found this strange underwater centipede which was pretty cool.
That was our last swimming stop for the day and on the return run the captain stuck the bow into a few more caves, one we were told was 55m deep!
We arrived back into port and Kim and I were thirsty. We stopped of a cocktail bar for a couple drinks. Then we went to the store to pickup some pasta and sparking wine for dinner, and what a dinner Kim cooked the perfect pasta meal!
