G'day you flamin' coots,
I'm in Airlie Beach and it's raining, eek! The apartment is not much to write home about but Airlie Beach itself seems pretty cool. Lots of backpackers so the vibe is great and there are heaps of nice resteraunts which we have tested out during the week.
We went on a snorkelling and swimming trip around Long Island, Whitehaven Beach and Daydream Island which was good fun apart from the torrential rain... mm Sunshine State no more I think!
Mum and I grabbed a ferry the other day and headed over to Daydream Island.... and I imagine when they first put the sign up they simply forgot to put Daydream 'to escape this' Island. It was a complete hole, but that just made the day more interesting. Mum and I spent most of it sniggering to ourselves over the giant plastic fish in the dining hall area, the matching brightly coloured fish carpets, the neon painted plastic beach chairs and matching beach apartments oh and the Gold Coast experience walk... if this alone isnt making you laugh, please just wait for the album update.... the photos will definetely make you rofl! I made an impression on the glass bottom boat tour by spotting a shark out at sea and was quickly shsssd by the tour guide.... can't be selling the idea of sharks to the tourists... shame for him, the 2 year old kids in the boat were screaming for the whole journey about wanting to see a shark... at least I made their day!
Other than that, we drove to Cape Hillsborough as Kat, the Italian wife (and now sadly ex housemate) said it was an amazingly beautiful beach with Kangaroos jumping around... not something you get in Brighton I can tell ya that ;) Anyway the rain came in and it was all pretty dark and miserable when we got there but we managed to get the beach views which were still stunning and we did get to see Kangaroos, in the campsite carpark... very wild! hehe!
We didn't managed to get on the Crocodile tour :( because the river overflooded and apparently that means the crocs come up to the surface and it's more likely you'll be there lunch... I thought it all sounded rather exciting tbh and I still wanted to go... ah well, next time maybe!
Right, off now, grabbing the bus to Proserpine and then down to Brisbane on the Sunlander all-night train. MUST ESCAPE THE SCHOOLIES.... EEEK! (tonnes of them flooding into Airlie Beach right now for their week long graduation binging....!!!!)
Later Gators x
