Well, we woke up early today (for real, this time!) because we had a train to catch!!! Today we left Paris for Germany!
We packed up everything, and realized that we somehow managed to acquire even MORE stuff, so even getting to the train station was a pain! But once we got to the train station and got our tickets, we realized that getting to the train station was probably the easiest part of our whole day! We had to take FIVE trains (12 HOURS!!!) from Paris to Hameln, on what should have been a straight shot, 3 hour train ride. RIDICULOUS! next time, we're booking our tickets in advance, FOR SURE! At least the ride was really pretty and scenic! Germany is BEAUTIFUL!!! And as soon as we entered into Germany, we stopped and got our first Brat and German beer to start off our journey. YUM!!!!!!! We are so excited to eat good German food....lots of sausages and beer we hope lol!
But when we finally got to Hameln, it was TOTALLY worth it!! Sweet Inge and Gerhard met us at the train station at midnight, and they were waiting right outside the train. They are both around 80, and I guess that we're not even related like I first thought (Inge was a childhood friend of my Grandma!!) They picked us up in a Mercedes!
The ride home was....interesting. They don't speak a WORD of English, and Natalie and I already used up our language knowledge in France and Spain.....neither of us speak German.....AT ALL!!!! But either way, they are like the sweetest (and COOLEST) old people EVER!!!! We got back to their amazing house and were so excited to find that they had a little midnight meal waiting for us. It was a plate of cold cuts and warm bread. We were pretty full, but we tried to eat some anyways! Then they showed us to our rooms (we have the WHOLE upstairs, it's like a separate apartment with our own bathroom and kitchen and everything.....SUPER COOL!)
We are SOOOO excited to be here!!! And I think we're gonna sleep well tonight, we are both EXHAUSTED!!!! Can't wait for our first day in Hameln!
