Hi everybody,
Just off a 3 day treck in the jungles of Chang Mai; all it can be descibed as is amazing!!! This internet cafe doesn't seem to have the software I need to upload all of my pics randomly, so I will try and set up a Flickr account too so that you can view my pics.
The night before the treck began, Amy (Scottish), Jen (English), Leo Argentinian) (people from the hostel) and myself strolled into the night market in Chang Mai centre which was really cool and massive, my bag however is close to bursting so I didn't pick up anymore souvenirs. Really enjoyed it though, there is just so much going on and so much to take in.
The morning of the treck started at about 08:00am. We got a truck to another hotel to pick up another 4 peeps, who were also all from the UK, which was cool. Then we started our 2 hour drive into the hills of Chang Mai. We stopped off at a little market on the way, where I bumped into hellena, the girl that I met on the night, train, I took her email and Facebook this time, so I definitely think we will meet up in Ko Tao for some diving (she's pretty hot too).
So after picking up a few essentials from the market along the way like a water proof jacket, we set off up the winding so called roads :) where we would start our tecking. Our guides were called Lao ad Aek, Lao's English was really good, however Aek is still learning, but he was pretty good all the same. We started trecking for about half a day, stopped off at a few amazing waterfalls, before hitting our first base camp, which was Lao's home village. We stayed in his father in laws home which was great, the home cooked food was amazing, coupled with Saki = even more amazing :)
Lao's father in law had a massive Marajuana crop growing which was pretty cool to see first hand. The night descended into lots of puzzle games with sticks and loads of drinking, amongst other things ;) Needless to say I slept alright for the first time in few days, all be it on a wooden floor. I seem to be having weird sleep cycles where by I have a dream and then wake up, then go back to sleep have a dream and wake up, this happened throughout the trecking, really odd. Another girl said that she had also experienced the same thing since being here....very odd.
We were up early the next morning for some more Elephant trecking, really not my thing by the second time, but ok. The trecking that followed however was really good and intense. We had an awesome noodle lunch out of Banana leaves before our descent down to our next base camp on the river. We were caught in an epic thunder storm, and we all got absolutely drenched. The conditions were really bad for our descent, we were slipping and sliding all over the shop but it just made the whole experience that much better. Oh yeah and I forgot to mention that I have been feasting on Bamboo worms, Grasshoppers, Ants and all kinds of wild berries, some of which were surprisingly nice others tasted like you could imagine........crap!!!! :) Lao the guide always said, "never try never know" a great moto in my opinion so I tried everything, this moto doesn't apply to the lady boys though hehe :)
Our base camp by the river was really cool, we had a fire and were staying with another really friendly family who just couldn't help but smile all the time, it just rubbed off and instantly made you happy. We all had a shower in the river with a bit of Radox :) before sitting down to another meal that was just immense. This time we had yellow potato curry with squash and the flavours were just great, each meal somehow got better than the last. The days trecking was fairly intense and everone was pretty shattered so it was early to bed before hitting it hard again the next day.
We started early in the morning again today, trecking for about 2 hours before hitting a few amazing waterfalls to jump off and cool down. After a another 2 hours trecking we met up with the truck again which took us to Aek's home to have another awesome lunch. This was followed by bamboo rafting and home, back to the guest house, it was an absolutely amazing experience, my rubbish words really won't be doing it justice, you just have to do it yourselves.
Im currently sat in an internet cafe next to Amy Jen and Leo, we are probablty gona meet up with the rest of the group in a bit to hit the food market and a few bars. Leo and I and and Irish guy called Gareth are heading out early in the morning for the long trip to the Laos border, before catching the 3 day slow boat up the Mekong Delta in to Luang Probang in Laos (I probabaly just said that all wrong, but that is the kinda gist). Its nice to be sharing another leg of the journey with some peopple that I have met for the first time.
So the liklehood is that I will be out of touch for few days until I hit land.
Oh I am setting up a 'Flickr' account as we speak for all of my photos as this one seems to be pretty shocking at uploading them so I will post a link to that on Facebook when I am done.
Adios amigos x
