Updated tally post fishing expedition this morning - Pippy 3, Kate and Geoff 2, Rowena 1.
Geoff was almost voted out of the family this morning........ we had 2 options to get from Cape Range National park to Coral Bay. Option 1 was back through Exmouth and back down the eastern side of the peninsula, estimated travel time 2 hours. Option 2 was to carry on down the western side of the peninsula crossing an empty but very sandy creek bed and then carry on along a very corrugated single track with estimated travel time 3 hours. The family vote was 4 votes for option 1 and 1 vote for option 2. I am sure you can all guess how the votes were cast. Well the 4 of us caved and agreed to let Geoff have his jollies. We spoke to a few of the other campers and the general consensus was that since we were towing it may not be a smart idea. Except for Geoffs new mate Doug who said we would eat it up!
The sandy creek crossing was about 100m and we got seriously bogged about 30m in. I am talking wheels spinning in the sand and going nowhere. We sat the kids under a bush while Geoff and I started digging. Geoff managed to get the car going 3 times but each time only for about 5 metres before it sank again. As a last resort we dropped the tyre pressure down to 12psi and with the rubber floor mats acting as a track and a lot of right foot Geoff floored the car out and our marriage was saved! We finally arrived in Coral Bay 4 and a half hours later. The only other damage was 2 broken eggs in the fridge. I hate to admit it but it was a very scenic drive skirting the coast the whole way.
