A day, a week.........''6 weeks'' in the life of Rachael and Kate!!!! Just a quick insight into whats its like for us living and working in the outback. Basically our day starts at 6.30am when we have to get up and feed the baby lambs and chickens - believe us we are not happy about this and moan everyday when the alarm is going BEEP! BEEP BEEP! Then by the time we have done this its time to start school with Josie & Evie as they have to be taught at home and over the air (its too far for them to get to go to school- 80 miles). This usually takes most of the morning. We also have something called ''SMOKO'' (basically like morning tea) Its an Australian tradition. Its were everyone who works on a property (Jackaroos, governesses, sheares, etc) get together for morning snacks at 9.30am as they have usually been up since 4am - shocking...... After lunch its time for all the other jobs like gardening, cleaning, planting the vigie garden mustering and drafting the animals ( Chasing them through the fields), then cook the dinner. This proved challenging as as our idea of cooking only consisted of making beans on toast, so we have had to learn and fast!!! we are becoming domestic goddessess ha ha!!!! Well life in the outback is certainly different. They have an airstrip and their own plane in the back garden, just like we would have a car. If it rains the mud gets so thick and you cant go anywhere for days on end. Shopping is delivered twice a week and is dropped off at the end of the drive for us to pick up ( the drive is about 5 miles long) But its been a really good experience, we met some great people and were especially sad leaving Joise & Eie. But our time had to come to an end and next we are off to Alice Springs to visit Ayres Rock then up to Darwin and then very sadly we are leaving OZ after 8 months!!!!!!!! :-(
