CYIA was from June 18 through the 27. A lot can happen in 10 days, and a lot did happen. But I have neither the time nor will to tell everything that happened, so I will just hit the highlights.
I was the supervisor of the Sioux cabin. I knew exactly 0 of the girls before they arrived. That was a little intimidating, but by the second day we were all old friends. They are all 14 excpet for Jess who is 15, but it was everyone's first year at CYIA. They are amazing girls. I never had to tell them to be quiet during morning devos, and they did a good job of keeping the cabin clean. We had a couple of little problems during the week, but we fixed them quickly using the Biblical principles of humility and forgiveness. I am so proud of each of them. They soon started calling me Mom and they made me sing to them at night. I hope to see them all back next year.
My ministry team was really great, as well. Everyone worked very well together and worked hard to make club fun and meaningful. I was so proud of them on Open Air because they were so excited to go and tell the Good News to children. Usually folks are nervous to go on Open Air, but they were all eager. As a result, we talked to 9 children on the streets of Waterville. All four of them show great potential and I am excited to see what God is going to do in their lives.
Our club wasn't huge, but it wasn't the smallest one either. We had six children enrolled, and I'm pretty sure they were all related. I believe the oldest four were saved, so it was good to give them some encouragement and challenges. They all did an excellent job memorizing verses. For some reason, the verses with this set of lessons are all very long. One of the girls was very shy and never seemed to be listening. But she opened up by the end of the week. That was a blessing. Although it wasn't one of those clubs that has huge numbers or kids getting saved every day, my team was enthusiastic and faithfully taught God's Word to them. And God has promised that His Word will not return void. I may not know until I reach Heaven what effect our ministry had, but I know there will be results.
There were so many blessings for me at CYIA, it would take too long to list them all. I was able to teach, not in a club setting but during study halls to those teaching the memory verse in their own clubs. It was a rewarding time for me as I was able to use my gift of teaching. God kept me safe as I drove to clubs in an unfamiliar place and during a huge rainstorm on Sunday coming back from Open Air. I can't tell you everything I learned from Mr. Romano's sermons on 2 Cor. 5 or Mr. Beebe's (I'm sorry, Dr. Beebe's) message on Sunday night. CYIA was amazing, as always. When Christian young people get together for the purpose of winning lost souls and spiritual rejuvenation, how can it not be exciting?
