Again, in true testament to the fact that you never know what will happen to you when you get up in the morning, life took a rather random turn. I was supposed to go out on a real safari, but instead I got fired. Something about me taking a job in South America? I almost laughed, I couldn't get a job in South America if I tried. There was also something about me bad mouthing the company to clients, and as they refused to show me the emails they got, I was forced to take their word for it. Load of rubbish. They also said I looked miserable, well, it's a bit hard to be happy about being stuck in a truck yard for a month and being used as a money mule to transport thousands of dollars across borders on public buses.
I immediately set about the task of trying to reorganize my life, as Dave was just going to dump me on the afternoon shuttle to Nairobi with basically nothing. I managed to get a flight booked to London for the 18th at 4:30am in the morning, and Dad called Aunty Wendy to ask if I could stay with her.
I sat around waiting for the shuttle until about 1:30pm, where by Dave gave me $200 of my pay and drove me to the Impala hotel for the last time. I got on the bus and then realized how relieved I was to be on my own again, not under the umbrella of this dodgy, disorganized company. The shuttle seemed to take forever to get to Nairobi and I checked into the Embassy hotel and then went out in the dark to get myself some dinner. I'd never stayed in central Nai-robbery in before, much less walked around in the dark. I can't wait to get out of Africa and back to England where its civilized.
I woke up in my small dark room in Nairobi the next morning and immediately set about the task of changing my flight home to 13th February. I tell you what, I was glad of my travel agent experience, I never would have managed to figure out how to reissue my ticket online otherwise.
After I had done that I had to wait for Absolute to send through the details of how to collect me pay. One last Absolute screw around to see me off. I ended up having to go all the way out to Westlands yet again, but I managed to spend some time in the Shopping centre to kill some time. Once I had collected my pay (the final hurdle in my head) I began to feel the some relief that I was escaping a truly bad situation.
I should have known better with this dodgy company, I thought to myself. I remember the day I left the Maldives, almost boarding my flight to Nairobi and still not knowing what was going on, getting almost no information from the time they gave me the job to the time I landed in Kenya and beyond. I remember when I got the job with Tucan, there was not a day that went by where I didn't at least hear something from them. They were a professional company….nothing like these guys who only feed you tidbits of information if and when it suits them. I'll know better next time, from now on zero information and communication, means dodgy with organization and will treat you like rubbish!
After I had collected my pay, I ended up going back to the hotel and having a Supernatural marathon until about 7pm, when I went out to get dinner. As I was walking around Nairobi, I thought to myself, I might actually like this city, if I wasn't worried about getting mugged every time I step out of my door.
I had dinner back at the hotel and then watched some more TV and had a nap. At 1am it was finally time to leave and I went downstairs with all my stuff and the idiot behind the counter didn't have change when I tried to pay my bill. I was then forced to go to the casino to change money, I told him it wasn't my problem he didn't have change but he wouldn't have it. After my detour, I was finally on my way, at that time of night there was no traffic and I was basically flying to the airport in my cab. I arrived and got out of the cab and paid the driver.
I loaded up my trolley and checked in for my flight. I then went and sat in the departure lounge for a few hours to wait for my flight.

Mum What a crap company, where is their Duty of Care for their employees. They should be reported back in London.
