I awoke in my hotel room Marsabit only too eager to get out of there, I went upstairs and had breakfast at the restaurant, which had appallingly little to offer. I settled for toast and tea, which ended up costing seventy shillings, about one Australian dollar.
I took my gear out to the truck and jumped on, we then headed back onto the dancing road for another day of hard trucking. Again we stopped for lunch in the middle of nowhere, there wasn't even a bush to pee behind. So me and the other girls told the boys to stay on the other side of Gertie, while we all went in the barren landscape. Together…..slightly embarrassing.
We did not reach the border town on Moyale until about 7pm, by which time the border had closed. We let two locals on the truck to attempt to show us a different hotel, but they were all either too full, too filthy or too expensive. We ended up camping out at the police station. Now while this may seem like a good idea, this is still Kenya, not all police are nice people and many of them are corrupt. We didn't have any trouble and Siobhan and I pitched our tent under a nice tree, as close to Gertie as possible. Dave and Sarah slept in the truck, to guard it more than anything I think.
