Day 12: 8am departure. First stop: Orvieto! We rode the funicular to the top where we saw the Duomo ... Very beautiful structure and design representing the best of the Renaissance style. After a wild boar sandwich (nicely seasoned but quite gamey and on stale-tasting bread which is apparently what the Italians like), it was only another 2 hours drive to Roma!
We caught a train from near the campsite into the centre of Roma... Starting at the Spanish Steps...Trevi Fountain...Pantheon...Piazza Navona...Piazza Venezia (Victory Monument commemorating the unification of Italy in 1861)...The Roman Forum and of course, The Colosseum. All the landmarks were awesome and exactly as I'd imagined them to be from pictures and movies. Don't exactly remember what each of the landmarks represents or what it commemorates, but each of them were grand nonetheless.
Luke also did a very good talk about the history of each landmark. It felt like it was a school group following our school etcher around. Had wonderful lasagne in a chic bar/restaurant: "Obika" and THE BEST grapefruit sorbet EVER!!!! omg the gelati in Italy are 100x better than Sydney. Don't think I can ever go back!!
We finished off the night with proscuitto, crackers, chips and red wine and a fantastic party at the campsite bar! We had an amazing and crazy time drinking cocktails out of a 1.5L bucket, dancing our feet off to great clubbing music with the fellow tour group people.
Best night so far in Europe!!
Ended up being (not too) trashed but did:
* abuse Andie, verbally, and..
* spoon Andie (which I nearly got physically assaulted for as it's one of her absolute hates).
Frikin AWESOME night!!!!!
