Day 11: Our free day in Florence! Starting with a walking tour guided by a local guide at 9:30am, we webbed our way through the narrow cobble-stone streets of Florence, visiting the exact copy of David the statue (from Rome), the St. Mary's Duomo (the 3rd largest cathedral in Europe after St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City and St. Paul's Cathedral in London). This St. Mary's cathedral was in fact the oldest in Europe though, being over 1,000 years old and having the largest dome (weighing 36,000 tons)!
Visited the "Leonardo Leather Works" shop where they showed us how leather was made and how to differentiate between real and fake leather, walked past Leonardo Da Vinci's old residence where he painted the Mona Lisa, had florentine steak for lunch at "Francesco", where we met the lovely owner Francesco who gave Andie a traditional friendly Italian greeting :) continued on our wandering of Florence, sampling THE BEST pistachio gelato I've ever had from a shop called "Perché no...!" THE BEST PISTACHIO GELATO..EVER!!!!
Continuing on through the markets selling an array of scarves, leathergoods, football shirts, jewellery and other trinkets... Through the cobble-stone alleyways of beautiful Florence. The whole time we were walking, there wasn't a time where we had any idea where we were. Streets looked the same and blended in with each other. We truly got lost in the romance of Florence. Too bad I'm with my best mate, ...but not my other half. It's ok, I pretended Will was beside me :)
Also walked past the residence of the Jersey Shore ("w****") crew who were filming season 4 in Florence, talked to a funny gay waiter who mapped out our map for the shopping places (saw a Salvatore Ferragamo museum with - €5 admission fee), ...soaked in the quaint character of Florence streets and architecture. The Florence town hall plaza with the one-of-a-kind bronze & stone statues were intricate, the Duomo was simply spectacular!
Finished off our day in Florence with traditional pasta served by cheeky old Italian waiters.
Fabulous Florence!!
