MARK "Lakka Bru, sorry its been so long but not been able to get on the net very much since we left Cape Town, plus rather than the 30p it was costing there, its more like 2-3 pound here and i'm a tight yorkshireman!!
Ok, so its been a crazy past couple of weeks, its been all packing and travelling, couple of nights here and three nights there, its mad but cool. There's been some quality moments and experiences so far, can't go into them all, but i'll try a couple.... Robben Island was amazing, it took me and Paul three atempts to get there but it was well worth it. Phil has prob already written about it so so won't bore you with it again, but it was a class experience and prob the highlight of my trip so far.
The Ostrich farm was the craziest experience, it starts off normal with a guided tour of farm and loads of interesting facts and information, then you get to go out and meet the birds, i was selected from our 30 man group to recieve an 'ostrich kiss', i had to put bird feed between my lips while Betsy pecked it out, got a photo so you'll be able to see how crazy it was, and a few days later we met a lad who had his lip bust open by betsy, so i was lucky.
Next up was even crazier though, we actually got to ride them, they catch the ostrich by hooking them around the neck and then pop a bag over there head (they are so stupid, they believe because they can't see you, your not there!) you then have to climb on from behind, and hold onto the wings. Female riders have two guy jockeys holding them so they can be pulled off safely, but for us blokes, its a case of once your on, get yourself off. I didn't need to worry about this, as once i set off riding, bag off its head, Terminator as my ostrich was known, shot off and we raced the full length of the pen, the speed was amazing and as soon as it turned to come back, i was eating dirt!! I gotta be honest, it hurt like hell and as i was the first bloke to ride one, i think it put off the rest of the group, but it was cracking and i'd reccommend it too everyone.
Fair play to Paul too, after a bit of coaxing from me and phil, he got up and a couple of minutes later, he was also on his back!
We've done quite a lot since we arrived in South Africa and met loads of people from all over the world, It's been amazing and i could write and write about it all for days. Its hard selecting what to write about, its all so good and the four of us often spend the evening sitting in a bar drinking our cheap beer talking about it all. I do miss a few things from home, the football mainly, i hate not knowing the Leeds results straight away. Family and friends too of course, and we do appreciate all the messages you all leave so thanks for that. But for everything we miss, this experience more then makes up for it. I've thought a few times what would it be like with the boys out here instead (dum dum, hank, axis, guns, rockit, snake, the all seeing eyes and the taylor, which means get out here lads, its class) but we do have a tight group and so far, i wouldn't change it for anything.
Anyway i've written enough for now, plus phil writes so bloody much you guys have prob given up reading and just look at the photo's instead. Take care all and i'll write again soon"
