PHIL: Well well well......again so much has happened between now and Jeffreys Bay when I last wrote. We went to Port Elizabeth from there and stayed at Lungile Backpackers. We originally wanted to stay in P.E. (as it's known) for about a week as Paul has a friend who lives here and she's said it's lovely, but after speaking to people EVERYONE has said not to bother going at all as there's nothing there. But P.E. isthe end of the 1st leg for the Baz Bus so you have to stay overnight there anyway and as we have alot more time in S.A. than most others we meet, we decided we might aswell still go and stay for a couple of days and see for ourselves..........are we glad we did!! Seriously, so many other people have missed it off as they've listened to others and we probably would've done the same had we not had as much time, but we definitely would have missed out. The backpackers was nice, a big dorm room, tv room, pool table, small bar but ok, nice pool, kitchen etc and really well located - down the road there was the beach, shops, McDonalds (typical!), post office, laundrette and the liquer store!! The first day we went wandering and found Bayworld - it had a snake park, an aquarium and then Bayworld itself was the bit that had penguins, seals and dolphins!! So we watched the dolphin show at 3pm and it was ace!! I think me and mark have been to a dolphin show before when we were really young but i may have dreamt that actually.....so anyway this was a great experience - Domino the dolphin was so clever I couldn't belive it - we were all in awe of him and what he could do. Afterwards Nathan was like 'god i got quite emotional there...' ha he's so soft!! But I was well excited coz when the boys went to get the seats for the show I carried on watching the penguins a bit and started talking to one of the girls who worked there, asking her about them and the noises they make etc when she said i could hold one if I wanted as there was no-one about. so I held a little African penguin!! The cutest thing ever!! He was nibbling at my bracelet and my fingers! He was tiny and so soft......i was so excited! The boys eventually saw what I was doing and came running back over so they didn't miss out!
That night we went to Captains Bar as we were told it was karaoke night and a good laugh - oh my god, it was so not like our karaoke! - everyone was absolutely amazing singers!! It was like auditions! We just couldn't believe it - some dude gets up and does about four 'oh oh ohhhhh ohhh ohs' and we just knew it was going to be amazing!!The whole night was fantastic - everyone was up dancing and the atmosphere was just buzzing all night - everyone really got into it and was just having a great time. None of us sang but I was so tempted to get up and do a burst of '3000 Miles' or 'All the things bright and beautiful....' but it would either be hilarious or I'd get stoned off stage!! Me, mark and paul were the the 3 out of probably 5 white people in there out of approxiamtely 60 but we didn't eve think about that and were having a great night - everyone kept coming up and doing there secret handshake thingey with us and trying to get us to sing etc........until one white south african spoilt it by saying to me and nathan that everybody in there will have been looking at us together and will be looking at us negatively and we should watch ourselves etc......There is still defintely a massive blacks/whites divide in S.A. but not everywhere and i'm sure he was just being an idiot but by then he'd spolit the atmosphere and we felt uncomfortable so we left. It was 3am though so we'd had a good run. The night after the same guy got mugged and beaten up on the way home from that bar on his own so.....?????
There was a place called the Boardwalk in P.E. too which looked like a place you'd find in America - it was full of different shops, food stalls (where me and nath had many samosas!), amusements, go karts (which mark crashed!!), a china town, restaurants, a casino, cinema (where we all went to watch Step Up 2!!!!!! woohoooo i loved it - and it works out as only 1 pund 25 to get in too ha ha!!!) and big lake etc. It was gorgeous and we spent quite a few hours there wandering round doing diffeent stuff and had a gorgeous meal there too one night. Oh at that meal two girls were coming round with free samples of this whiskey to promote it so we obviously all said 'yea we'll try it!', but it was gross so we dared nathan to drink them all......oh dear me, he was drunk after two of them!!!
So that was Port Elizabeth, great place. Oh and me and nathan went to see Domino perform two days later too as we were so impressed - and this time he did some different tricks - he had a massive beach ball and he threw it into the crowd. Nathan put his arms up and shouted 'to me domino!' so he therew it at nathan!!! Except it went to hit nathan who then, as he's soft, tried to avoid it so it bounced off him and hit me right in the face! I was too busy taking pictures though so i have a picture of it coming right at us. I'll get them all on as soon as (this computer won't let you use the USBs). Then it was on to East London to the Sugarshack backpackers.......borrrrrrrriiiiinnnnnnnngggg place.
