Greetings from Incheon Airport. This is the second time I have written from here, the first being when I arrived in Korea, on 28 September 2007.
I had planned to write my final blog from Hong Kong, but I have four extra hours to kill at the airport. My flight to Hong Kong (due to take off at 0830 HRS) has been delayed. This is because of a category 3 Typhoon in the Hong Kong region. Hopefully the typhoon conditions will die down and my connecting flight, not due to leave HK until 0845 HRS Local Time, Sunday, will take off on time. This means I will have 4 hours less time in HK, but that's not a disaster. I will still have time to get the Mass Transit Railway to Kowloon and Hong Kong Island, for a quick tour.
I left on good terms. The boss shook my hand not once, but twice... which I think was a good sign. He told me what he was going to pay me for August and revealed that I had done exactly 10.73 months of work so far, for which he paid me a pro-rata severence (bonus) pay. I also got money for teaching 18 classes of summer school. I told him to stick it in my Korean bank account. It's no good to me now.. it's there for when I return in 7 weeks.
The ducks flew on the final day... (ref: Sopranos episode 1)... the collection of multi-colored rubber ducks that I had brought from the UK as classroom props were given away in my final Junior 1/5 class. Particularly good for little Liz, as her Dad is a policeman so she got the 'police' duck.
I handed over my apartment keys to Garry, who was already getting settled as I left for the airport express bus. Just before that, he revealed the location of Andy's new 2 bedroom apartment - right above me!! So we will be very close neighbors next year.
I finished my 'Big In Japan' movies, on the last night, and will put them together when I get back to the Whitehouse.. it won't take long as all the hard editing work has been done. So, the follow-up to Phil's Tanzanian Adventure will be released within the week!
Anyway, until the final, final blog from Hong Kong.... it's joy-gin/baai-baai.
