hey guys as usual i have been up to so much which is why it is taking me so long to get to a computer and write my stories!
so i think i got to last saturday but first the firday evening was amazing went to a place called the gaffe (favourite party place in sydney! we were told by our guide that it was a live band night and he would get us in for free well when we got there i was asked to pay 10 dollars - some people from the group before us paid the money but i held out and refused to pay, started a mini rant and before i knew it i was in for free with a free drink in my hand yay!the band was awesome and we partied hard!!
rain was in full downpour mode yet again on saturday but we were still undettered and went to go and see taronga zoo - im sure that had the sun been shining and we could have had a picnic it would have been one of the best zoos i have ever been to however, the rain was at its worst. this meant that the cable car (which is meant to be amazing) was shut, most of the animals werent there and if they were they were hiding because it was so cold and wet and the shows were cancelled because there werent any crowds - but yeah apart from that had an amazing time hehe! the evening saw us go on a party bus.LOVE THE PARTY BUS! quite literally it did what it said on the tin it took us to various locations of sydney and gave us a free drink in each and then picked us up and took us to the next place, the bus itself was aamzing was covered in graffiti so it looked like a prty bus and music was blaring out of it! loved the party bus!just a shmae i couldnt drink too much as i was still suffering a little bit from the friday night!(too many free drinks that night methinks!)
on sunday the weather looked a little brighter well at least it wasnt raining completely!so we did a harbour cruise and got off at the famous doyles for fish and chips. as the weather was still a bit grim we couldn't really see that much in the way of sights even the harbour bridge and the opera house looked a little bit far away the fog was so bad!fish and chips were good though! the afternoon was a fun packed jet boat ride around the harbour! first time that it wasnt raining and we openly allowed ourselves to get wet! crazy people! the boat ride lasted for about 40 minutes and was doing twists and jumps was really good fun although we had to wear raincoats that were a little bit large and a little bit yellow!
on monday there was sunshine! actual real sunshine! did i mention the sunshine! and it wasnt raining! so me and claire decided to go to manly with a guy called rich that we met at dinner the night before. we caught the ferry and managed to get pictures of the harbour bridge and opera house without rain or big black clouds in it woohoo! and then we sat on the beach with the bestest ice cream i have ever eaten! got two massive scoops of devils chocolate and rum n raisin and then you could add your own sauce and sprinkles!!!for no extra charge!!!so with our ice creams we sat on the beach, jus chilling watching the csurfurs ride the waves and claire made a little sandcastle!when it got dark (by that i mean when a big black cloud came over us!) we decided it was time to go back to the hostel. rich's friend chris was going to be flying in that evening so we agreed to meet for a few drinks later on that night. well a few drinks of goon (dirty wine) turned into a few jugs of cocktail and it wasnt long until we moved on from sidebar and danced the night away in scruffy murphys!!!
needing to recover from monday, tuesday was a planning day and just general chillout. we did go out for a few quiet drinks in the evening for rich's birthday and to say a few goodbyes but we didnt drink too much as we had an early early flight to alice springs the next day.
alice springs is a little bit strange and a little bit dodgey! not just the pople in our hostel but the people in the street! we, claire and me, instantly felt intimadated when we arrived, there were lots of aboriginals loitering on street corners (this was latter explained to us that there isn nothing else for them to do as they cant get jobs and the gov give them enough money to survive on so clearly they are just bored!) but there were signs on shop windows saying please do not eat the soap! because obv as a backpacker im so hungry soap is a luxury!!!!!!! we went to the cinema to see shrek the third (very funny) but read a sign that said footwear and clothing was required and the clothing must be suitable not torn or soiler! 0r SOILED! never seen anything like it! having survived the night we had one more day in alice springs to kill so we went out for lunch and made it last all day!then it was quick into bed and up early for our rock tour adventure.
the first day of our tour meant that we did a 3 hour hike over kings canyon which was beautiful, sheer cliff edges and drops! and it was sunny! met some really cool people well i me 3 other cool people ha ha! after walking kings canyon we went to collect firewood! well the guide dan made it look really easy just pull a branch of a dead tree and it will come off! so i jumped onto a branch - never scared of a challenge - and pulled but it didnt budge, so i lifted my feet off the floor and was left swinging as the branch refused to move! having no luck at all with the firewood claire and i found a large piece of tree! so decided to take that as our offering! people were not nearly as impressed as we thought that they would be but it did however, start some of the men on a mission of who could bring the largest piece of wood back! having got sufficient wood we went into the bush to set up camp. again the girls were given the stuff to make dinner and the guys were instructed in making the campfire! claire, jenna, jane, me and daniel sat and drank beer! too cold to be doing anything else. it was a great evening though jus sitting around a campfire drinking and watching the stars of which you could see millions as we were in the middle of nowhere!
the next morning was an early rise again - but strangely you sort of dont mind that when you are still getting up and theres a million stars! so we got up and made our way to the olgas (thats the pic on my display) they were stunning!instantly they had an impact and you just thought wow! we hiked the olgas for about 3 hours and then came down for lunch! although you cant see anything other than redness the view from the olgas is so impressive!and becuase we were there early we were walking as the sun was rising!magical! after lunch we went to see the rock!!! honestly i was a little bit dissappointed with the rock! wasnt nearly as impressive as i thought it would be but then the olgas had been so much better than i expected! strange! we walked around the rock for a little bit then returned to campsite to set up the camp and fire wood etc and then returned back to uluru (ayers rock) to watch the sunset. going to skip over the next couple of bits because the sunset and the sunrise the next day was not so great there wasnt the amazing light show we were promised and the rock didnt change colour that dramatically! that evening though i was wide awake as was daniel! which meant trouble and giggles. we played i spy and laughed at the snorers - got told off by a miserable lady on tour for being too loud (knew it was going to happen!she'd been waking up and scowiling at us for about 2 hrs before she could bring herself to say anything!)after being told off we tried to be quiet but simply couldnt manage it so daniel went to sleep in the bus!
the next day claire and i caught a flight to melbourne! yay! and thats where i am now! so will keep you posted on my fun things in melbourne.
