last week was melbourne week and whilst it was not as action packed as my last few weeks it was still amaizng - obviously! we had planned our whole trip around arriving in melbourne on a monday - monday night is neighbours night! so we walked around melbourne during the day and tried to find another hostel that was a little bit cheaper. then we got back and prepared ourselves for the celebrity filled evening. standing at the bus stop i was in full rant about what i had to do in my next month and how little time i had, when dave (a random guy at the time but soon an awesome mate) told me a whole load of other places to see and that was how our friendship began ahhh! lol! so neighbours bus arrived and took us to the elephant and wheelbarrow. we got to meet dr karl kennedy, max, connor (oh my goodness he's got fat!) and janelle. i'll be honest i got a little bit star struck and lost all ability to speak - now that is definately a first! we then got to listen to karl kennedy's band - yes he has a band a real one with an album; quite surreal! and then it was on to proper music where me claire and dave danced the evening away!
Tuesday was a day for recovery so not alot happened apart from we did play bingo(it was free and anything thats free and semi-fun is a defiante yes!) and we won a jug of beer yay! but it did mean that claire's detox night didnt go too well!Wednesday however, was neighbours installment part 2 yay! where we got to go to grease monkeys and the garage and the bus stop where everyone leaves, we also went to the street itself - it really does exist! it was quite exciting - we also got to meet carmella! we met dave in the evening for a quiet drink where we compared photos of the street as he went on the tuesday! was great fun! although the whole neighbours thing was a little bit wierd.
Thursday me and claire became proper tourists we went to the art museum and then to fitzroy gardens where captain cooks cottage is now situated. and then we ended our exploring with a hot chocolate and a cake as was usual melbourne behaviour to be honest! the evening was fun filled evening as you would expect which involved much drinking, singing and dancing - well it was dave's last night in oz!the walk home that evening was interesting, claire was cold so ran most places and i was on the hunt for cheese and chips would you believe there were no kebab shops in melbourne!!!!! and when i asked someone where i could find cheese n chips they told me to go to seven 11 or hungry jacks!!!! these people are crazy! dave came to the rescue though with doughnuts! not the same but good substitute!
Friday night was Aussie rules night! the game itself was a little bit insane but i think we managed to get the rules pretty quickly even if we did have to keep asking the person sitting next to us, half time meant a pie n a pint! it was so good! the atmosphere at the mcg was brilliant even though it was only half full!incredible evening! it was that night when claire said that it finally hit her that she was in australia, and whilst i didnt get that impact from the game itself i did think it was a bit emotional (proper corny i know!) Again after the game we went for a few drinks our excuse this evening was that i had to leave the hostel at 3 am in the morning to walk down to the station where i would get the 4am shuttle to the airport so going to sleep was not really an option and drinking was the only way to stay awake as we were a little bit tired!
the best part about travelling is meeting people and everyone tells you that before you go travelling and no one tells you that the worst part is the saying goodbye so yet again i had to say goodbye to my travelling buddy claire who i'd beenw ith for 3 weeks! so now im off to start my adventures again in cairns! still loving every minute though!
fill you in on more stuff soon
