Hi there!!
Hope everyone is doing groovy wherever you are!! So, I´m currently in La Paz at 3600m!! I was really worried about suffering altitude sickness but it all seems ok!!
So, what have I been up to... I left Buenos Aires on Sunday and flew to La Paz. Considerably cooler than BA - strappy top and cardigan (occasional scarf) weather, but really easy to get burned!
Bolivia has a national identity which BA didn´t show all that much. Here the women (they have a special name but I cant remember it now) mostly wear traditional dress - big skirts, huge pieces of cloth made into bags slung over their shoulders and the bowler hats!!!!!! The streets are far crazier and market stalls pour over the pavement onto them. It´s great - not "Kathmandu Crazy" but coming a close second.
On my first night I met some Brazilians who were going out to meet some friends in a great bar called Mongo´s! Awesome evening - restrained on the SUPER cheap beer (everything generally is VERY cheap) 1.40GBP for more than a pint!! Considering the two hour time difference between BA and La Paz and my serious lack of sleep I was amazed that I stayed up to 2am (body thinking it´s 4am)
The following day I went on a walking tour of La Paz, had an amazing 80p lunch with three courses!!! Mum, you´d be impressed I tried to eat some meat which was still on the bone, something like oxtail...More correct would be I nibbled...
I wanted to go into the Plaza Murillo but there were protestors lining up on the streets outside and big police (and military) barriers.... since I had no ID I figured it best that I scarpered!
Today I went on a tour to Twanaku, pre-Inca site. Apparently it pales in comparison to Maccu Piccu but it was still pretty darn impressive. The accuracy of the buildings was incredible!!!
I´ve now swapped hotels (this one is AMAZING.....) as my tour starts today, I think there are only three of us, Kym, Natalie, myself and our guide who´s name I can´t remember. I havent met them yet so fingers crossed they´ll be good fun!
I´m really enjoying Bolivia - trying to extend my ticket home but it´s proving expensive at the moment!! I want to stay a little longer and do a Spanish course out here. I´m getting by ok but I´d like to ask more questions to the locals and things.
That´s enough from me! I´m TRYING to upload some photos but it´s proving tiresome, check back later and maybe they´ll be there!!
lots of love and hugs
besos xxxxxxx
