I made it to Canada!
It was a long boring flight, but still a breeze compared to those Singapore flights I used to do back in the day! Air Transat are okay, though I am not too impressed with their conversion rates to buy things on the plane, and don't have any dollars…. One to one! A five dollar glass of wine ended up being five pounds; lesson learnt is to have Canadian cash next time. I must admit as well, for the price, it was an easy flight and reasonable leg room compared to some of the 'premium' carriers I have flown with in the past.
Apart from a little turbulence during the flight it was pretty uneventful and the movies were crap!
Had a nice long chat with one of the very nice gentlemen at immigration on my way into the country. Apparently, jotting down that I wanted to stay for 28 days on my declaration form warrants a 'special' chat with one of the immigration chaps! though I am quite happy to admit that he was a nice guy and originally came from Croatia! I'm not sure what information he actually needed to check as we talked about work, life, immigrants, welfare scroungers.... and I think I found out more about him, than he did about me; he did like to talk! Anyway, that chat made me take an hour longer to get out of the airport than I anticipated.
Car rental was a breeze, and thanks to some 'emergency' emails (thanks Carole), I managed to get the car hired and on my way quite quickly. Though the same cannot be said about the new sat-nav on the iphone..... I'm not sure if it is due to a problem with the iphone or the software, but I ended up going west on the 401 (instead of east) and then ended up in some suburban recreation park. It obviously was not my fault as I am so technically savvy and had to be a fault with the iphone! Too cut a long story short.... It took me about two hours of driving to travel the 38km to Pickering.
Made it in the end though.
