Breakfast improved somewhat the next day, but the hotel was anxious following the cow incident the evening before.... lucky the police were there to remove the offending animal from the lawn....
Leaving Kanab behind we headed into Zion... WOW!!!!! We really had no idea what to expect and it exceeded all expectations.... Basically a lush valley surrounded by sheer cliffs that again range in various shades of reds.... Add to that the beautiful autumn leaves and it was a perfect place to spend the day being harry hikers.....
Zion does not allow cars into the main part of the canyon... so on the shuttle bus we hopped... and didnt phil love the people we were sharing the experience with... of particular note were the numerous photographer wanna-bes that had their quick draw lenses, waterbottles, tripods and flashes attached to their utility belts... (Photos to come!)...
We ended up doing 4 hikes in the valley (how healthy are we!!!) and even had a proper picnic... well the left overs of the pizza we had had the night before... but hey... its better than a handful of nuts and an oreo.... Zion is also famous for its hanging gardens and weeping rocks... they have estimated the water that flows out of the springs is 1500 years old... This place definately impressed us... almost bumped Yosemite from its perch.... but not quite...
Of course seeing 4 Condors helped!!! They are some big birds with a wing span of nearly 9 foot....
We were sad to leave Zion but ready to get out of Utah.... even more so after trying to find a beer in St George, our stop for the evening... After a day being adventurous we wanted a big hearty meal and a brew...... Utah has strange liqour laws... and St George on a sunday evening we discovered had neither.....
