Jacq here..... After what can only be described as the worst breakfast EVER (even worse than the mouthful of flour and fake eggs we had in Tahoe) phil and i headed to Bryce Canyon.... I had wanted to go here for ages, it is the smallest of the Southwest National Parks but has the reputation for being the most unique... and also the coldest as we discovered....
Again the scenery changed dramatically, much more deserty..... and people also became stranger..... we past numerous police cars (sorry make that sheriffs vehciles) complete with dolls in front seat instead of real people, aimed at slowing people down.... The fact they hadnt moved when we were returning was a bit of a give away.... but hey maybe others arent as bright as us!!!
Bryce was certainly unique.... the land masses are called hoodoos... and if you ever made drip sandcastles when you were little like me... thats basically what they were... only on a much larger scale..... There were thousands of them, and reminded me a little of the terracotta warriors... The colours ranged from dark red, orange, pink, yellow and white.... Bryce is at approximately 9500 ft... and forms part of the geographical staircase (bascially the North Rim of the Grand Canyon is the lowest point of Zion, the highest point of Zion is the lowest point of Bryce, and i have no idea what the highest point of Bryce is.... but is high... and cold!)
After spending a few hours marvelling at these hoodoos (and really there is only sooo much time you can stare at a lump of sand, no matter how pretty/weird they were) we headed back to our victorian cell... i mean room.... Jennifer Pringle redeemed herself by allowing us to surf the internet for free for about 4 hours... but we than had to live with being called and introduced as the bloggers to all guests.... and given we were the youngest by about 1000 years.. this resulted in numerous conversations that really didnt need to occur.... Utah is strange.... nuff said.
