The bed was surprisingly comfy. The added luxury of no mosquitos(LT). Alarm was set for 9:00am but with the bed and a lack of sleep last night I doze off. Someone is knocking on my door. An old chinese man asking if I'm checking out today. Unsurprisingly I know that and let him know. I lay on the bed for a quick 30 minutes, comfiest bed in months. Just about to pack up and I get a call on the room phone asking if I'm checking out. I connect to the internet to check local time and Singapore is an hour ahead. I scurry to pack and head downstairs. I leave my rucksack and head to the Garden at the Bay. I had read about it in Focus and every stop over I have had here, I've passed it on the way to the airport. It has to be seen. I get the MRT there and upon arrival I see the towering structures not far off. The huge hotel shaped like a boat is right next to the station and towers over me.
I head towards the skywalk towers. They are 25 metres in height with plants growing up the outside. Only $5 to go up them. I pay my fee and get in the elevator. So happy to have finally done this(LT) and the view over this part of Singapore is excellent. Looking over the area, there are all types of tropical trees and plants growing. A large outdoor botanic garden with various tropical birds flying around and have made it their home. In the distance I can see the Cloud Forest which is unfortunately closed. A huge dome with a walkway above a rainforest. Flower dome is also visible, basically a giant dome with baobabs and flowers in it. I can see the harbour from here with many ships in. Singapore still being a major port. I walk round the sections of the park, information points explaining how a rainforest works, from canopy to the floor. I walk towards a lake that is at the back of the park and sit for awhile watch birds fly around and enjoy by last hot sunshine probably for some time. There is a small aquarium, really just a few tanks, but there are some beautiful large catfish that I look at. I head to some beautiful lilly ponds which are starting to flower and then head to the Kingfisher Lake. There are metal statues of kingfishers but I dont see any real ones. Children are playing in giant water fountains close by whilst I try and photograph some woodpeckers up a tree. This is the best day I've had out in Singapore(LT). If I lived here, this would be my second home. Peaceful and so much to see. I;ve been here for about 3 hours and realise I need to start making my way to the airport. The wind is starting to pick up and I've gone from spitting rain upon arrival, to glorious sunshine. As I leave, the weather is on the change. I head back to Chinatown, grab my bag and get the MRT to the airport.
I check my bag in, grab some Anchor beer from the 7-11 and head to terminal 2 for the sunflower garden. A nice spot outside, I listen to my MP3 and watch planes take off and tourists getting photos next to the sunflowers. I catch my flight at 11:15pm and get my seat by the window. I always prefer an aisle seat on a long flight. I watch a few films, The 3rd Hobbit, Insurgance and Kingmaker, the last being the best of the bunch. I don't get alot of sleep, can't seem to get comfy. There's a large metal box in front of my feet, but I doze off now and again.
