I had just seen on the news this morning that there was a big fight outside one of the bars in the Kings Cross area last night and someone got stabbed, so I was quite glad I didn't go for a walk up there last night. I guessed it would be quite safe during the day and I was going to walk up and through there this morning as I had planned another route around Sydney to go and see some of the other sights of the city.
I am so glad that I didn’t book a hostel in the Kings Cross area as walking through there in the daytime was quite bas as you got to see all the grotty places in the light. There were betting shops, bars and some very dodgy looking places all around the area. There also seemed to be a high number of locals already drinking on and around the streets and it was only 09:00. I quickly walked through the area not really paying much attention to anything and headed down towards the harbour.
I headed down to the harbour where I found Woolloomooloo (I can’t believe that word was in my MS Word spell checker!!!!) Bay which housed an Australian Naval base, close to Potts Point and in the bay itself a wharf containing many trendy bars and apartments with some very expensive boats moored up outside. There was also some strange pieces of art dotted around this area.
Round from Woolloomooloo Bay (I had to type it again as it has 8 o’s in it!!!!) I headed around to the Royal Botanical Gardens where I got a different view on the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House together. As you can imagine, I took a few more pictures of the two together trying to get that perfect shot again. I am sure that by the time I leave here I will have more pictures of the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge than anything else on my travels.
Walking out of the park I found my first Aboriginal drunk/homeless man sleeping at the base of a statue of Queen Victoria. I guess the 11am head and booze just called for a sleep.
Following the road around the harbour I passed through Circular Quay again and round to the Rocks area of Sydney where I popped in to the Museum of Contemporary Art (http://www.mca.com.au). I stopped here for two reasons, the first was to have a look around at some of the weird and wonderful pieces and also it was free entry and passed some time.
My next stop was the Sydney Museum in the Rock area.....
The Rocks is an urban locality, tourist precinct and historic area of Sydney's city centre, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. It is located on the southern shore of Sydney Harbour, immediately north-west of the Sydney central business district. The precinct and its immediate surroundings are administered independently of the local government area of the City of Sydney, by a New South Wales state government statutory authority, the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority. The Rocks area borders on the Bradfield Highway, leading to the Sydney Harbour Bridge, with the localities of Dawes Point and Millers Point, to the west. It is immediately adjacent to Circular Quay on Sydney Cove, the site of Australia's first European settlement in 1788.

From the museum I had a wander around the old streets towards the Sydney Observatory.....
Sydney Observatory is located on a hill now known as 'Observatory Hill' in an area in the centre of Sydney. The site evolved from a fort built on 'Windmill Hill' in the early 19th century to an astronomical observatory during the nineteenth century. It is now a working museum where evening visitors can observe the stars and planets through a modern 40 cm schmidt-cassegrain telescope and a historic 29 cm refractor telescope built in 1874, the oldest telescope in Australia in regular use.

While wandering around the observatory I got a call from Adam saying that he was not back at his apartment and that I could come around at any time with my stuff. I told him where I was and he said that I was really close to his apartment; the only thing was that I needed to go back to my hotel where I had left my bags for the day in their luggage storeroom. I told him that I would be about an hour and I’d see him in a little while.
I walked back to my hotel and grabbed my bags and as I had quite a few I hailed a taxi outside to take me to Adam’s apartment. As it was now 17:30 and rush hour in Sydney, it took a little while to get across town to Darling Harbour area and also cost $20 but I guess it was better than trying to get across town walking or on the subway with all my bags.
Once I got to Adam’s house and started to unpack my stuff, not only did we realise that I probably owned more stuff than Adam as he didn’t really have many belongings in Sydney and I definitely had more food with me than he had in his kitchen. As he only had a one bedroom apartment, the couch was going to be my bed for the next few days and I was going to take over the living room with all my stuff. Thanks so much Adam for putting me up and I hope I am not too much of an inconvenience to you.
After sorting mu stuff out a little and tidying up I realised that my iPhone accessories that were in a separate bag along with half a loaf of bread has been taken from the locked store room at the hostel. I have to pop back there to see if I left it behind, but I am sure that it has been taken.
Adam popped out to the gym for an hour as he is training for the Sydney 9km run at the weekend and then we popped out for some dinner. Thanks again Adam for supporting your skint, homeless, jobless cousin!!!! LOL
