I could really get used to being woken up by the sun shining through the windows in the morning and it being nice most of the time. I think I am starting to finally fall in love with Australia. As it's another nice day, I think I will head over to Bondi Beach to see how it compares to yesterdays beaches at Manly.
To get to Bondi Beach today I had to catch the train to Central Station then change on to the train to Bondi Junction. Then from the junction to the beach I had to catch bus 381 which dropped me off right at the beach.
As soon as I got off the bus there was a coastguard helicopter hovering above the sea and I first though that there was an emergency rescue going ahead but after a while I realised that it must be a training session for the Bondi Beach lifeguards. Even though it was training, I was very grateful to get a few good pictures.
There’s some interesting history at Bondi.....
Bondi Beach is a popular beach and the name of the surrounding suburb in Sydney, Australia. Bondi Beach is located 7 kilometres east of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of Waverley Council, in the Eastern Suburbs. Bondi, North Bondi and Bondi Junction are neighbouring suburbs.
Bondi Beach is about one kilometre long (≈0.6 miles) and receives many visitors throughout the year. Surf Life Saving Australia has given different hazard ratings to Bondi Beach in 2004. But it remains one of the best beaches in the world. While the northern end has been rated a gentle 4 (with 10 as the most hazardous), the southern side is rated as a 7 due to a famous rip current known as the "Backpackers' Express" because of its proximity to the bus stop, and the unwillingness of tourists to walk the length of the beach to safer swimming.
On 6 February 1938, 5 people drowned and over 250 people were rescued after a series of large waves struck the beach and pulled people back into the sea, a day that became known as "Black Sunday".

There wasn’t really much to do at Bondi especially as I am not interested in surfing, but I grabbed some lunch and ate it on the beach catching a few rays and then headed for a walk around the town and a quick look in some of the surf shops before heading back to Sydney.
I got off the train the Central Station stop as I wanted to find the Greyhound office there so that I could book a Greyhound bus to Melbourne. I checked the price with them and then booked the overnight bus on 18/09/10, at least I would get to ride one Greyhound bus in Australia (maybe two as I have to come back to Sydney for my flight to New Zealand).
As I was in the city centre and only a few minutes’ walk away from my last hotel I decided to pop back and see if my iPhone accessories were still in the store room or whether they had been stolen from me. I went to the bar/reception and told them that I had thought that I had left them behind in the store room and they just gave me the key and said go upstairs and have a look. Now this is where the problem lies. I could have been going through everyone’s bags taking anything that I wanted, but I didn’t. I just had a look around to see if my bag was there....it wasn’t!
I went back down and told them that they must have been stolen and that they should let people go up there alone and should change the way that they let people use the store room for their baggage and they agreed to change the way they do things in the future as the same day that I lost my stuff someone else had their UGG boots stolen from the same room too.
