On the one hand it's hard to believe that there's only one week until we take off for our big overseas adventure. On the other, it seems like I've been planning this trip for years...
We've got the last big details sorted finally. The ticket details have been released by the travel agent, we've got our wills sorted out (grim but necessary), and yesterday the last of our foreign currency arrived. We've been transferring money to the Air New Zealand OneSmart card for some weeks now, trickling in money as fast as we can earn it. But it's a bit distant and impersonal to transfer money from one currency to another electronically. Receiving cold hard cash from the bank in another currency is exciting, and tangible proof that we're going overseas.
It's fun, if a little unreal, to play around with notes from another country. Compared to NZ's plastic notes, the Arab Emirati Dirhams and the British Pounds seem very quaint and old fashioned. Different sizes, designs, colors - I just hope I don't hand over a 100 dirham note instead of a 10 dirham note. Not that 10 dirhams buys much. About $4NZ on the current exchange rate... Fingers crossed I've bought enough to feed us for two days!
