Pedro's Mission
I arrived in Warsaw from Krakow at about 1900 and made my way to Nathan's Villa Hostel. As soon as I left Warszawa Centralna train station in front of me towering over everything was The Palace of Culture and Science, a post World War II gift from Stalin. Once at my hostel I sorted my things out, went out for a wonder and grabbed some food.
On the Sunday I went to see the Old and New Towns in the north of the city. On my way I got a little Brucey bonus as I managed to stumble across a parade that consisted of about 100 Polish models wearing pretty much nothing (sorry lads I forgot to take photos, a big big school boy error on my part)!! Anyway, just before the Old Town I stopped off to read about the Warsaw uprising at the open air museum. Once in Old Town i saw the former Royal Castle on Plac Zamkowy (Castle Square) and wondered through the cobbled streets, through the Barbakan and into New Town. Pretty much none of the buildings in Warsaw are the originals as it was bombed to the ground during the war but the replica Old and New Towns are still pretty impressive.
On Monday I thought about walking into the Ghetto Area but I decided I couldn't be bothered so instead I walk up the road and got a lift to the 30th floor of the Palace of Culture and Science, where i finally found a post box and took a few pictures of Warsaw. On my way down I stopped at the 6th floor to look around the small science museum which had a huge blow up eleplant.
That was Warsaw pretty much done for me and for the next 2 day I lazed about in several parks and played a lot of basketball in the hostels courtyard. A bit of advice, if you ever decide to go to Warsaw don't go for more than 2 days as there really isn't much to see and you'll end up wasting days like i did. Next stop Vilnius which had better be better!
