Well, as you can see, I skipped a blog yesterday. There just wasn't enough to tell you to make it worthwhile, so I've combined it with today...
Yesterday, we drove from Rocky to Bundaberg, not a long way, but still a very boring trip. There are very few towns between the two regional centres, certainly none worth stopping at, and our view was restricted to the bitumen, the white lines and the sugar cane fields either side. The rain has set in now, and at times it's become a heavy fall rather than the slight drizzle. It's constant enough that it has an impact on everything we do, and is beginning to affect our outlook on things. Just about all outdoor activities and tours are out the window, and there's only so much you can do inside. Shops are boring when you don't need anything, and there are only so many movies we can go to. The leak above the boys' bed is still there, but not getting worse, but not stopping either. b***** the rain!! We decided yesterday afternoon to only spend one night in Bundaberg instead of two, and to add the extra day to our time in Noosa. Hopefully the rain will clear while we're on the Sunshine Coast, and allow us to do touristy things again, with the applicable touristy attitude. Because yesterday was Sunday, nothing in Bundaberg was open. We rushed around in the afternoon to visit the Bundaberg Ginger Beer factory, but we arrived at 1.45pm and they closed at 2pm, so we only got to see inside their gift shop, and have a photo in front of the big barrel... We then dashed off to see the Bundy Rum Distillery, and although they were open until 4, the final tour was already booked out, so again, we only got to look inside the gift shop, and have a photo with the big rum bottle... You'll see from both those photo's, and the others, that it's been raining all day. Which is a shame really, cause the main town centre of Bundaberg is absolutely beautiful, and well worth looking around. They have some wonderful old buildings in the main street, and some great parks and open spaces which are beautifully maintained, but you just can't appreciate them properly in the pouring rain. The BIG4 park at Bundaberg was also a very pleasant surprise. Absolutely immaculate gardens and grounds, and really nice sites and cabins. The facilities are what you'd expect to find, and perfectly suitable for their purpose. The owner, John, took us on a guided tour, and is understandably proud of what he and his staff have managed to achieve. The park is the same size as ours, with the same amount of land, and the same number of sites. The major difference is that he has no semis or permanents, and his park looks so much more open and spacious... Makes both of us wonder...??
We had a later start this morning, because the rain makes it much darker in the caravan... (and also because I sat up until 12.30 last night watching series 2 of The Walking Dead. Anyone else hooked on that yet?) It didn't matter though, because it was only a short trip to the Sunshine Coast and BIG4 Noosa Bougainvillea Holiday Park, and we had arrived and set up by 1pm. We're not planning on doing anything though, because the rain is still preventing us from getting out and about today, so hopefully it will ease a bit for tomorrow. We're here for eight days, so we should get a bit of decent weather in that time. We also have an ensuite, which makes everything easier in the rain, if it doesn't clear. But we haven't even been able to go for a walk around yet...
Jo's stopped taking photo's because everything looks dark and grey and miserable, and we think we'll have to get the ugg boots and tracksuits out again. Everything we own feels cold and damp, and we now definitely feel like we're getting closer to home. To sum it all up, we're feeling a little depressed at the moment which probably makes us seem spoiled, petulant and unappreciative. But we don't care, this rain is spoiling the end of our trip and it shouldn't be allowed...
I know... We need another bakery...!!
