Well, we're finally here, we made it!! Today, we arrived at Coconut Holiday Resort in Cairns...
Nothing more to be said, really... This is what the boys have been looking forward to for the entire trip, it's what's had them the most excited, and for both of them, it's going to be their highlight. The rest of the trip will be nothing other than the way home. Geoff was here to meet us when we arrived, and the boys were so bubbling with excitement and enthusiasm, that he couldn't help but smile. The park is a standout. It's absolutely stunning and by far, the best I've ever seen. In every way, it sets the bar for all of us, and it's got to be admired. I don't know how Jo's going to capture it all in photos, but we'll sure give it a try. We've been given the 'super ensuite site' for the duration of our stay, which is twice as big as a standard site, and has it's own BBQ, laundry and spa. How will we manage when we head south again? Do we even want to head south again? This is going to be a magical nine days, I can tell. I just hope they don't fly by too quickly...
The trip from Cooktown was largely uneventful. The day was lovely and sunny, as forecast, and both the boys were up early so we could be away early and arrive in Cairns early. We came down the inland road, through Mareeba, rather than using the coast road through Port Douglas as we did when we went north. This was good, as it gave us a taste of the Atherton Tablelands, which are just beautiful, and somewhere we'll have to get back to. We found a coffee plantation called 'Coffeeworks', which is a massive coffee shop, chocolate boutique and gift shop. It's enormous, and very, very yummy. They also have the largest collection of coffee making memorabilia in Australia, but you had to pay to go through the display, and we couldn't be bothered. (We'd just given them enough money through the chocolate shop, their cafe and their gift shop). So we arrived in Cairns early this afternoon, and the boys just disappeared... We set up for our stay and had a walk around the park, and then went to the office to gather brochures and plan our attack for the next nine days. The boys didn't return... At 5.30, when the boys still hadn't come home (we hadn't had lunch yet either), we decided we should go looking for them, and found them in the playground. They'd been in The Sun Lagoon Pool, then to the Garden Pool with big slide, then on the Worlds Largest Jumping Pillow, then ridden their scooters around the bike track. They were in the playground, cause it was the best place to sit and decide what they wanted to do next. They were deep in negotiating a compromise, when we arrived and suggested we go to the cafe for dinner. They must have realised they were starving, cause we got no arguments from either of them. I don't think it would matter if we decided to sit at the caravan all day, and not go anywhere, both the boys would be happy...
This is gonna be great!!

Michelle East Cairns coconut looks awesome! Do you want to let them know that we will be there about the 21st August and your the site you're site would be fine :-)
Ginny Just read your blog and looked at the photos. I think that not only are you going to have a hard time getting the boys to leave, you're going to find it hard too. Wow what a place! How are you going to make a mini version of it here? Might have to buy some acreage somewhere here at Port. Because if you build it they will come. I know you need lots of mullay but I keep trying to win that 200 million you dreamt (i think that's how you spell it) I'd won Pete so you never know. Again have fun, stay safe and big hugs from us. Love T&G
