". . .life is short and the world is wide"
So my favorite thing for dinner at the villa is the huge salad with oranges, almonds and raisins with my vinaigrette dressing that I bought from Esselunga (the sweet supermarket). Usually at dinner they feed us this wimpy salad of just lettuce leaves, so when we get that good salad is always a great night! Well tonight it was frustrating because we had to eat dinner in a matter of 15 minutes, cause we had to catch our train to Milan! It was stressful, but we made it to the station and on our very nice Eurostar train, and it only took 2.5 hours!
In Milan we stayed at an apartment with a girl that we met in Bologna. We met some Americans on the bus and they offered us a place to stay for free when we came to Milan, so we took them up on that offer, and saved some money because Milan is ultra-expensive! When we got to Emily's apartment we say that we would be sleeping on a marble floor, but ya know, free place to stay we can't complain! There were some other people staying there... from Spain and from London, actually the girl from London is studying through the program that I was going to study through, crazy! AND! The kid from Spain went to high school in the same town that Colin and Spencer are from in Minnesota! Can't believe it! We sat up for a good part of the night exchanging study abroad and travel stories, always a good time! The most I talked with them; the more I realized how lucky I am living in Italy. I am sooo happy that I am staying where I am, with so many cool people, and gosh we life in a VILLA! Everyone else lives in apartments which is cool, but how often can you say that you lived in an Italian Villa, had a cook, and had maids? I just think I am super super spoiled.... Except that warren is an even better cook at home, so I won't be missing out in that department when I go back to the states!
Next day we spent in Milan enjoying "fashion week", in the fashion capital! The duomo is the church in the center of the city, every Italian city has a "Duomo" and it is usually in the center and so if you are ever traveling in Italy, just go to the duomo and it's a good place to start! As we arrived in the city center, an Italian man started to throw birdseed at us, and before we knew it, pigeons were surrounding us, landing on us and completely creeping us out...!! Seth was the only one that played along, us girls started to run.... After a couple minutes Seth tried to get the birds off of him and the guy wouldn't stop throwing seeds on him until he paid him 5 euro, I couldn't believe it! So stay away from the pigeon man!
In Italy, I have to have my breakfast, it is much different than the states because I am used to having a huge breakfast, and enjoying my favorite meal of the day, but in Italy breakfast is just a cappuccino and a piece of bread or fruit, but either way, I needed a cappuccino. We sat at a café in the duomo area, ordered 3 cappuccinos and 3 croissants and it cost 25 euro! That is more than 25 dollars ha! Well, that's what you get in Milan. It was good, but not that good!
Next we met up with some friends from the Villa who were also visiting Milan, and spun on the Taurus, a must do in Milan for good luck. We went out to lunch, and guess what we got... PIZZA! We always get pizza when we go out for meals in Italy, because it is the cheapest thing on the menu usually, and it is usually the best in my opinion! We got a lot of stares in the restaurant because Adrienne and Lauren are identical twins, the waiter held up a sign from across the restaurant that said "ARE YOU GIRLS TWINS?" It was preeeettty funny! The rest of the day we walked around the city, which is very pretty, but much more modern than the other cities that we had been to in Italy, We shopped at all the expensive stores, because its Milan and that is just what you do there! Versace, Dolce and Gabbana (My favorite), Armani, Prada, Gucci, Guess. Don't worry parents, you would be proud of me, cause I said no to peer pressure. I didn't buy anything designer! I was able to live vicariously through Matt who bought an entire outfit from Armani and it was fun to help him out, he loves my fashion advice!! I was even helping put away clothes, and a customer thought I worked there and was asking me for different sizes in Italian, I politely told him that I didn't work there and he was laughing, WOW what a compliment, I just must be fitting in very well in Italy, if people think that I am working in Italian stores!!
We ate like Italians, 11pm, we started heading to dinner. After dinner we were all completely worn out because we had been walking around the city ALL day, so we headed our separate ways to sleep, before we headed to the Olympics the next day!
