So can't quite believe it, but somehow I've got to the end of India and am now here in the airport having arrived ridiculously early to go to Vietnam! These last two weeks have gone by so fast that Im struggling to remeber what exactly I got up to, but I had a great last week at the hospital and was given presents and a lovely send off by the children which was very touching. Also spent an afternoon down with another clinic for the construction workers on the outskirts of Delhi. Don't remeber seeing much medicine, but had a great time mucking around with the slum kids who pitched up for the biscuits that get handed out every time. They were so enthusiastic it was totally exhausting, and although I've heard all the stories, it was quite shocking to actually meet seven year old children who have to look after a baby or two everyday while the parents are out at work.
This last week I've spent doing my whistly stop tour of the golden triangle, so doing all the tourist stuff: visiting monuments, sightseeing, shopping etc and having a great time. Some of the hotels even had swimming pools!!! Have yet to come across a better solution for 40C afternoons.... We also went to see a Bollywood movie (without subtitles but they're so overdramatic, you really don't need them) which felt a very authentic experience, but otherwise I've found it a bit weird spending all my time in the bus, restruants, hotels and tourist attractions after all my time wandring the streets of Delhi.
The only slight issue has been the theft of my wallet, some jewlery, and card on thursday, followed by a good ten minutes believeing my camera and all the money I'd been lent had been stolen (it was stuck inside an Xray machine) on Friday, and then half an hour this morning thinking my flight didn't exist any more, so it's been a slightly traumatic end to my trip. I'm quite sad about this, as I was so in love with India and this has all soured it a bit, but I'd had 4 1/2 weeks with no trouble in any way at all, so I suppose something was bound to happen at some point. In any case, I am desperate to come back (so the whole idea of being able to cross these countries off my list has failed epically) and have learnt so much from and so enjoyed my time here that I feel very lucky indeed,
Anyways, onwards we go....
