So......I haven't forgotten you all, its hard work trying (trying) to learn Spanish.
Now though I have the added responsibility of working in a project with young kiddies!! The spanish school here supports volunatry work with local projects from around the area, so I decided that I would help out at one! I chose to work in a after school project in San Sabastien about 15 minutes away by cab. Its from 4 - 6 in the afternoon but is a totally new project. It was started by a local vicker and his wife, who bought 2 mountains (apparently no so expensive here) and built himself a house and one very large room for the project. But that was it, there is absolutely nothing else there! Not even a proper floor in the room, only mud! No tables, no equipment, no games....nada. So last weekend I went with the wife of the project to buy some tables and chairs at a local market. We bought 30 chairs and 7 tables. Things here are quite cheap for us, but not for the locals. For example one chair (you can see them in the pictures) cost about £3..............SO IF ANY OF YOU WANT TO DONATE MONEY TO THIS PROJECT IT IS MORE THAN WELCOME!!!!! and I promise it won't go towards the 'Paul Jones - Drinking fund'. There are three other volunteers there too, Annie (Ana), Renske (Juliana) and Juan (Juan)..........not forgetting me Paul (Pablo).
Today, we break the kids into three age groups and start classes with them. We are going to teach Artes, Musica, Ingles, Juegos, and the home work - La tarea!
My spanish is still bloody awful, but luckily the others are pretty fine. But it could prove a little tricky when I am trying to teach them subjects. (I think I'll be okay at English though)
Take a look at some of the pics...........I'll try and get some of me and the kiddies soon.
Other than that nothing else, much is happening here. I let you know if it does. Looking forward to Karen coming over soon.........will be fun. I might even drag you along to the project. Starting practicing spanish sis.........Sit down! Be quiet! Draw! Stop hanging of the edge of the cliff........etc etc.
Good luck to all those people doing the area in the next few weeks!
