Hello again,
We are back in Kathmandu, flew out from Pokhara yesterday after spending the afternoon at a pretty interesting Mountain Museum. The flight is only 25mins and we managed to get out an hour early, the flkight itself was a bit disappointing as the smog was sooooo bad in both places we did not even get the sniff of a mountain.
Met our group last night and hey we blend right in with all the other old fossils. We will be in very good hands tho' as 7 of the 16 are doctors!!!! Must be the profession that has enough earnings to travel (ha ha). All seem very nice and tho' some are here as singles or without their partners the ratio of m/f is about even.
Spent this morning on a tour of the 2nd biggest buddhist temple in the world (has bits of the Buddha within apparently) and then we went to the Shiva temple of the Hindus on a sacred river that flows from the mountains to the Indian ocean - not sure it was quite what the gods had in mind as it was filthy and the cremations are done there (infact were happening at the time) and the ashes just go in the river. Toby, you will be pleased to know we brought more paintings (two Buddhists mandalas) at the school where the master painters learn and stay. Truly exquistely detailed work, some of it done with a one hair paintbrush, using mixes of only five basic colours.
We are off to Llhasa tomorrow am to start the next adventure, will be kindof nice to be out of the cities again - have had strict instructions not to wear the free Tibet or Dalai Lama t-shirt.
Forgot last time to say how beautiful the range of forests was we went thro'. Flowering rhododendrons, bamboo, birch, tussock etc.
Tobs, the food would have made you happy, unlike Maccas you could get anything at anytime and they did wicked french fries!! Also every type of egg (for you Cass), porridge, muesli pasta bakes etc, soup, all noodle and rice stirfries etc etc.
Well apparently there is internet at Llhasa so you may be forced to endure us again from there. Happy Easter to everyone (Cass and Toby - did you find the nest in my wardrobe) and happy birthday to Lisa.
Love us
PS NEWSFLASH - as of tonight Lincoln Hall will no longer be accompanying us. He arrived in Kathmandu very sick and is now in the hospital having had a pleural effussion drained. Seems tio have been ill for a while as much thinner ettc than others remember. Did get to meet him yesterday but he was fairly vague. Still all is good our head guide has taken over (lincoln was a guiding figurehead really) and we are in good, and humourous hands.
