Hello everyone! I´m in Rio at the moment, been here for one day so far. This city is unbelievably massive!! Can´t comprehend most of it! Atleast they have a Metro system which is similar to the London Underground system. Although slightly more up to date!/
In Puno, we got a 2 day tour of the Floating Islands, made of straw. It was awesome seeing how they managed to construct these islands. We got a demonstration of how they make the islands, then a demonstration of the locals bartering system. Then after that we went to the first island called Amanti i think. We met our ´family for the night, and went to their house. It was fairly basic but remarkable how they managed to cook what they did for us! That night we were dressed in traditional dress (which meant a poncho for me!) and went to a local ´fiesta´party which involved lots of drinking and dancing!! The next day we got the boat to the second island called Tequita, looked around the main town. After a night at the hostel in which we all dressed in orange, in honor of the Dutch royal family, we got the bus to La Paz. La Paz is also massive! The view we got from the bus was awesome. Managed to find a hostel, then sleep. The next day, we went and saw some local ´cholito´wrestling which was a pretty surreal experience, and it was hilarious! got myself a mexican style wrestling mask. That night we went to Loki Hostel for a few drinks. Then it was on to Cochabamba, where Sally and Steph continued on to the Inti Wara Yassi volunteering place, near Villa Tunari. Me and Kat stayed a night in Cochabamba (fairly standard Bolivian town), then the next day I caught a flight to Santa Cruz, then onto Sao Paulo and finally landed in Rio de Janeiro yesterday! Took me 2 hours to get from the airport to the hostel, then straight to sleep! Today I went to Copacabana beach, then Ipanema beach. It is huge, and remarkably clean. The view from the peninsula where the Copacabana and Ipanema beaches meet is amazing. Hopefully going to do Christ the Redeemer, Sugarloaf Mountain, and a favela tour whilst I am here!/
Thats all for now,
Paul
