Journey to the End of the World!
My bottom lip is pusy (p**** ) (ha ha ha that word was just another name for a cat but the blog people have sensored it lol) and leaking. I shower (twice in as many days. That's a 1st!) to get rid of all the yuk. It's SO painful. I manage to pull away some of the skin (I know sorry) until it looks semi presentable, then take my pill and tenderly dab some cream on.
It gets to 5pm and I head towards the pier. Show my passport and boarding pass and I'm told to go that way, for ages. I passed a wee scabby looking thing which I hoped was not my ship or I'd have something to moan about. I took a pic for your perusal. It was not. I got to the end of the pier to where a giant cruise ship was sitting/parked/moored? I climbed up the steep ramp and after showing my documents was greeted by Alana who immediately showed me to my room. I opened the door and then I stopped and stared. My own room. With a sew view. With my own bathroom. My own (CLEAN) bathroom. With an abundance of towels. And a hairdryer. And shampoos/conditioners and BODY LOTION (what's THAT???). I ran round the room whooping and bouncing around then all of a sudden I was so overwhelmed with the realisation that Andy should be here with me enjoying all this that I called him sobbing down the phone. He thought something had happened but I wanted HIM (in his every day normal life) to comfort ME (in all this luxury and the experience of a lifetime), which he did perfectly. As always.
After I'd pulled myself together (as my dad would say) I took full advantage and washed all my clothes. They're now all draped round the (clean) bathroom with the heating (heating? What's THAT?) turned up full blast!
Half an hour later and we were all told to go up to the 5th deck (5. I know!) for a presentation and welcome drink. The next bit was pretty pretentious to be honest. The captain and crew were all announced and we all clapped them. Don't you think we should all be clapping at the end when they've got us all back safely I thought?? And actually said to one of the staff, who agreed. Although I'm not sure if she was just smiling and nodding cos she didn't understand. We were given a drink and a small plate of appetisers and then told everything that would happen during the trip. They advertise it as a 3 night 4 day trip but really it's only just 2 full days and nights cos we leave late tonight and get back on day 4 morn so hardly 4 days guys!
We took off/started sailing and only had about half an hour of being outside checking out the scenery (although it started hailing. Yes hailing. I know. 5 mins after moving) when we were told to come in for dinner. Wow talk about luxury. The dining room looked like someone's wedding. I knew I was at table 5 so made my way there. I have always seemed to be the oldest amongst my fellow travelers. By many years. And often wondered where all the oldies were. THEY'RE ALL ON THIS BOAT!!!!! I am the youngest here!
The table of 6 already had 5 sitting at it. How did that happen I was straight down! They all had starters in front of them and were actually waiting for me. How cute. I thanked them and told them I wouldn't have waited for them. Perhaps not the best 1st impression but hey. For starters we had crab meat with a drizzle of sweet sauce and a tiny salad. And just in case you hadn't realised it was crab meat they kept one of the claws intact. My table consisted of a swedish couple, a german couple (who all talked amongst themselves) and a lone female traveler who sat across from me and bored me to tears talking about politics. Andy and James you would love her! We then had soup, then steak and potatoes, then a tiny spongy fruity thing. All absolutely gorgeous. I excused myself as soon as possible and went upstairs to the cocktail bar where everything is fully inclusive. I KNOW!!! I chatted to Simon the barman a bit and got chatting to the swedish couple from our table. Turns out there's karaoke tomorrow night! Oh Oh. I was very good and only had a couple. SO horrible leaving a free bar but I want to see the sun rising and apparently the scenery is gorgeous coming towards Cape Horn. There's a very high chance we may not even be able to get off the ship. If the weather is too bad it's too dangerous. You know there are estimated 800 shipwrecks at cape horn? Simply due to the weather? It's meant to be the most treacherous sea! So I'll be having a MAJOR temper tantrum if I've paid all this money ans can't even get there!
