13th March 2007 - Day 347
Set off to catch the "Pony" bus to Puno, were a little anxious as we had never heard of this company before, got to the bus station and were transfered to another bus company. The bus itself was a little run down, it looked as though the bus had been assembled from a variety of different buses, lots of odd seats etc.. The trip to Puno was interesting, the bus stopped a few times to let locals on selling their produce, corn drinks, sweet corns, etc.. One lady got on with an enormous bag plonked in down in front of us, then started ripping her way through the bag, got out a huge meat cleaver and starts hacking away at the meat hidden in the bag, she then wraps the meat up into a greasy piece of paper with two or three potatoes puts it in a plastic bag and starts handing it around the bus for people to buy. Yuck, the worst of it was that Paul was getting sprayed with all the grease from the knife everytime she cut into the meat, it went flying over Paul. An eventful trip all in all. Arrived a Puno safe and sound and checked into a lovely hotel with a huge bed and sat TV.
14th March 2007 - Day 348
Headed out from the hotel for a stroll around the edge of Lake Titicaca, later venturing out on a boat to the floating islands, one called Uros. My word they are really amazing, islands floating in the middle of the lake made of mud and reeds. Pretty cool, these people even live on them. Had a boat ride on an enomous reed boat between the islands. The weather was sunny and the sky bright blue, took some really amazing pictures.
15th March 2007 - Day 349
Took the bus from Puno to Arequipa, only five hours but the driving was pretty hair raising at times and made us both a bit sick, swerving up and down the mountains.
